POSTS STORIES REELS

I had the privilege of watching an advance screener of this before this Sunday’s premiere at @themetrocinema of the new @juniorgonewildyeg documentary.
Without hyperbole I can say, anyone who’s ever been a fan of the band or music from Edmonton needs to see this film. It’s a triumph and director @eden.munro and @ntt.films should be very proud.

I’m also further privileged to host a short Q&A after the screening with Eden and the band to dig deeper into the best band to ever come out of our frozen tundra.

See you Sunday. You should all be there. by @brentoliver780

I’ll save the long spiel about loving this country, and Alberta’s place in it. I’ll also hold my vitriol towards the scapegoating of immigrants on the ballot and how I voted no because of its inherent racism and the love I have for the members of my family who just happen to be born in other countries.
All I ask is that if you haven’t voted until today - frankly, you have to. You can’t let hate, xenophobia and petty grievances divide us. You can’t sit by while a vocal minority tells you to do something that is profoundly anti-Canadian. You can’t let propaganda and paid bad actors succeed.
We can’t let the bastards win.

Go vote. Do the right thing.

Puttin’ the O in Ottawa.

Great trip to the capital for the Canada After Dark conference with some great colleagues and bonus Starlite pals. Good talks and advocacy for Nightime economies here, there and everywhere.

I say this every year, but I couldn’t be more proud of the line up we just put out for @winterruptyeg. Our partners in Winnipeg and Saskatoon absolutely killed it bringing so many of these to the table, and thanks to any and every one of you that have already bought passes.

See you in January. I’m the tall one. by @brentoliver780

I went to @breakoutwest in Victoria and saw friends, shared my “knowledge”, ate food and saw a bunch of bands.

Thrilled to not only see this, but be given the honour of moderating the Q&A after the event with filmmaker @eden.munro and members of @juniorgonewildyeg at @themetrocinema .
Get your tickets now as this is sure to sell out. by @brentoliver780

I swear, they’re making this as confusing and/ or difficult as possible.
Got my mail in ballot - here’s my thoughts.

1. You need to photocopy your ID.

Didn’t know about this and with this government’s stellar record of data privacy, that’s not great. Also not great is anyone who doesn’t own a printer or copier in their home and now has to go through the added bullshit of copying their drivers licence.

2. The folding is confusing.

On each individual ballot, they ask you to fold it three times. But, there’s an extra paper sheet saying just fold everything in half. Ten bucks says they’re going to use some discrepancies in folding to disqualify some ballots.

3. Pen or Pencil?

They allow you to use a pen or pencil to fill it out, but at the end of the ten ballots, your vote for No to the Nine leaves a paper indentation on the yes to leave Canada vote. Another $10 says they’re use this to monkey with results.

Regardless, I have completed and mailed my vote and done my provincial and national duty to protect national rights and my province’s inclusion in a country and system that - warts and all - is better than the referendum’s alternatives.

Chin up Alberta. Let’s do the right thing. by @brentoliver780

…In the middle of Lake Ontario.

Posting today for no reason other than to say that, warts and all, I love this country.

When I received a Queen’s Jubilee medal in 2022, this is what I wore.

I will love that woman forever. She was the best of us.

RIP you angel. by @brentoliver780

To the Alberta separatists out there attempting to make a case for more economic sovereignty through independence, I implore you to do any research on the history of business and banking moving to Toronto (and elsewhere) before and after the 1995 Quebec referendum.

This Oct 19th, even by having this vote, we’re shooting ourselves in the foot, or more aptly - the wallet. by @brentoliver780

I went to Toronto for work, then my wife and kid joined me and there was food and ballgames and the occasional pal.
