Billie is a piece that was commissioned by Mun Botanical Gardens for the Stumped exhibition this summer. . I went into this ignorant about the entire process but alas the mandem is a wood carver now, you boy’s got wood, good wood. You’ve heard about golden boy, let me introduce to Wooden- you get me. . This piece is about the growth and my coming awake to the fact that nature is a living being that is something seperate from me that must be respected. I became aware of that nature was not a toy when my hand was cut by a spear of leaf on my way home from school. Before that pain, I can only remember bliss and no feeling of seperation. Billie is the Igbo word for wake up. I came awake and conscious from that pain. . Shoutout to @lucajesseapel for giving me lessons. by @briankcee
