Day 1: Mexico City 📍🇲🇽

My first SOLO trip! 🥹✈️

Every year for my mom’s birthday, I take a trip to celebrate her life. And what better way to honor her than spending Día de los Muertos week in Mexico City? 🥹🦋🤍

Kicked off my trip at a networking event hosted by @blaxican_cdmx at the Sofitel Hotel. Such a dope space for solo Black & Brown travelers to connect, but definitely welcoming to everyone!

Met some amazing people, made some genuine connections, and had an even better time than I expected. Traveling really has a special place in my heart, especially when there’s meaning behind it.

Mexico City, I’ll definitely be back! 🤎🇲🇽

Transparency Post:
Since losing my mother in October 2022, I can honestly say I’ve never been the same.

Losing her changed something in me that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fully explain. The way I view life, the way I love, the way I handle people, the things I care about… all of it changed. There’s a version of me that existed before losing my mom that I’ll never get back.

Grief has taught me how fragile life really is. How quickly everything can change. How important it is to love people while they’re here, say what you feel, take the trip, chase the dream, forgive, let go, and LIVE.

I still choose to be positive. I still choose love. I speak the life I want over myself because I truly believe my words have power. I manifest, I pray, I dream big, and I refuse to let what I’ve lost make me stop believing in everything that’s still possible for me.

But that doesn’t mean I don’t hurt.

There are days I would give anything just to hear her voice, hug her, tell her what’s going on in my life, or ask her what I should do. There are moments I wish I could just be somebody’s daughter again.

Grief never really gets easier. You just learn how to live alongside it. And I think the way I’ve chosen to navigate life—loving deeply, staying grounded, being grateful, and truly living is one of the ways I keep her with me.

I’m still becoming. Still healing. Still living.

And I know she’s with me through all of it. 🤍
