POSTS STORIES REELS

Really rather chuffed.

The @guardian Long Read magazine that @chrisclarkecc and I designed just won a wooden pencil at this year’s D&AD awards.

Huge thanks to the judges for the award, @nishantchoksi for the fantastic illustrations, and to Chris for bringing me along for the ride.

At the risk of over-saturating…
Here’s a wet Rishi. by @brunohaward

Last Saturday the Weekend magazine, The Guide, Travel and Review magazines joined forces to create a truly wonderful M E G A magazine: The @gdnsaturday. Massive congratulations to the team behind it: @chrisclarkecc @ajbreuer @Maggie_b_murphy @sara_ramsbottom_design @typography_nut Merope Mills @Ruthlewy @willydean @kateedwa @huntforcaroline among others.

But, this also means the end to a fantastic three and a half years and 191 issues of art directing #GuardianReview magazine. It's been a pleasure and an honour to work so closely with such amazing and creative artists, illustrators and photographers from all over the world. A small number of which are shown above.

Huge thank you to @katherinelams who earlier this year created this beautiful and sinister artwork for our Long Read section.

An English gentleman, a crooked lawyer: the secrets of Stephen David Jones.
With his brilliant mind and impeccable credentials, it’s little wonder that wealthy clients trusted him with their fortunes. Then they started to get suspicious.

The Bedside Guardian 2024
↓
This year’s Bedside Guardian breaks the archetypal mould of previous years in favour of an entirely crafted, unruly and expressive cover design. The typography; derived from hand-rendered articulations with our non-dominant hands — layered and distorted as a timeless reflection of the year it encompasses, and as a physical underpinning of our design approach to honour and celebrate authenticity and imperfection. [Swipe for process]

Designed with @brunohaward and finished with fluro Pantone Red 805u on a reverse stock.

‘It was billed as the ‘year of elections’, with more voters going to the polls across the world than any year in history. A triumph of global democracy? Perhaps. But in reality, the news cycle of 2024 has been dominated by conflict – wars in Gaza, Sudan and Ukraine that rage on with no end in sight.

It was a year of other seismic disruptions, too: an assassination attempt on a US presidential candidate, riots on the streets of the UK, the spread of climate and antiwar protests, a surge of the right in Europe, Labour back in power after 15 years. Bringing together the best coverage of all this and more, The Bedside Guardian is the essential companion to make sense of the past 12 months.’ by @brunohaward

A selection of images I made for the @guardian’s US election coverage. ✂️🗒️

As per our coverage of the UK election in July, we’re making the images by hand. The majority of them live and on demand as the stories unfold. 🤯
