It’s been a busy summer, but now we’re taking things down to the studs in the guest bathroom at our #tudorrenovationproject. As always, big thanks to @devontiledesignstudio and Hazel (who kindly offered emotional support during the process)!

A few things we’re loving this week:

1. Eye-catching in their simplicity, these Marcel Bruer attributed lamps are made entirely from nickel-plated bronze and stamped at the base.

2. We love all of the handmade ceramics from Gabrielle Jolie of Fish Haus, but find these oyster dishes especially charming. (We stopped by her Kennebunkport shop during our vacation to Maine and left with a variety of little gems.)

3. Rich with Amsterdam School vibes, this full-length mirror with seating provides big style for small spaces.

4. Simply enchanting. This patinated brass, cast bronze, passementerie, faux parchment and glass lantern would be a stunning above a round foyer table.

5. Hand-blown and hand-engraved, these delicately etched goblets transform even a weekday glass of wine into a special occasion.

We love all of our clients, but there’s something special about a past client reaching out to work with us for a second, third or even fourth time. We feel lucky to be working with two such clients at the moment, and last week brought visits with two more that we hope to work with again soon.

We are honored that you let us into your homes, and even more honored when you return to work together again. Thank you for your trust; we are thrilled to be part of your lives!

Snapshots from a recent visit to our #blackrockbarn renovation project:

1. Original stable drain used as a transition between end grain and plank flooring in the lower level foyer

2. Exposed stone wall in the primary bedroom

3. Reimagined ceiling detail constructed of salvaged barn beams

4. The client’s much-loved guitar collection

5. Modern railing detail at the intersection of original wood and steel beams at the newly added second floor

6. An ode to the client’s love of analog technology

7. The original chicken coop, still in use, houses the family’s beloved feathered friends

Design is in the details. For this custom, built-in sofa at our #cleanslateinnewhope project, each element was meticulously considered - from the veneer selection, to the flitch width, to the grain direction on each face, to the integrated Trufig outlets that disappear into the figured walnut base.

We are so grateful to work with partners whose meticulous craftsmanship brings our sketches to life. Thank you for being an essential part of both the process and the final result.

A few things we’re loving this week:

1. Suddenly, we’re struck by the mad desire to design a room around a pair of twin beds. Coincidence?

2. We’re forever in search of interesting and unusual flush mount fixtures. This slumped glass beauty ticks all the boxes.

3. Dreamy Murano glass pendants shaped by the ever-creative mind of Lindsey Adelman.

4. Humble yet unexpected, this bench has us dreaming of sun-dappled screened porches and idle days.

5. The sweetest little border tiles – ideal for trimming out a project with unexpected detail.

A few things we’re loving this week:

1. We recently purchased an Amsterdam School armoire for our #weetudoredo project, and have a soft spot for all things 1920’s. This lamp hits just the right quirkiness note —adore!

2. Always in pursuit of the perfect mirror, we think this collaboration by Amuneal x Studio Athena Calderone fills a niche beautifully (literally and figuratively).

3. St. Patrick’s Day may have passed, but the charm of these paper napkins from Zara Home will live on well into the warmer months.

4. A statement table by Marc du Plantier as seen in the Sotheby’s auction of the collection of Jean and Terry De Gunzburg. There’s a reason that this collection set a record for the most valuable design auction in US history; each piece is absolutely stunning.

5. This pendant is just one of the inspiring pieces in Barry Dixon’s new collection for Arteriors.

The clients: a busy family with an extremely active lifestyle, three children, and chickens (yes, chickens)

The brief:

1. Step into a project already underway and design the kitchen that the clients have imagined as the heart of their converted barn project.
2. Using provided locations for plumbing, appliances and cabinetry, craft a finely tuned design that truly reflects the clients and their lifestyle.
3. Provide a material and finish palette for the kitchen that speaks to the barn it inhabits.
4. Fill the space with thoughtful details, comfortable island seating for a family of five, and a dedicated home for the family’s well-loved and often-used ice cream maker.

To accomplish these goals, we:

▪️Specified inset cabinetry with antique brass hardware, and a creamy subway tile backsplash
▪️Used a mix of finishes for the cabinetry—paint on the perimeter cabinets and stained oak for the island—all unified with honed Namibian White Quartzite (and a thick slab of it on the island)
▪️Camouflaged an unsightly post running through the corner of the kitchen with tiled niches and walnut shelves above the countertop, and a faux cabinet door below it
▪️Added small details like a brass pot rail above the range, a brass towel rack on the sink end of the island, and walnut & brass shelves at the bar/beverage area near the great room
▪️Ensured that everything had a thoughtfully considered home in the new kitchen—including a special appliance lift in the island for the beloved ice cream maker

If you’d appreciate having this level of thoughtfulness applied to your project, we’d love to talk. Click the link in bio and let’s start a conversation.
