Your weekend reminder - save this to come back to or send to a friend that you know has been putting everything and everyone before themselves 💚

You can’t show up as the best version of yourself if you have been leaving yourself at the bottom of your priority list. When you’re feeling stressed, overwhelmed and burnt out it’s time to book in some time for you in your calendar as well 🙌🏼

It’s been a long time coming but we are thrilled to share that BU Happiness College has now been officially recognised and accredited by @socialtraders_au as a social enterprise.

When I started BU almost 10 years ago, the goal wasn’t just to build a business. The goal was to build a vehicle for real, lasting positive change; democratising the skills and science of happiness to help people manage their minds, navigate life’s challenges, and build happier, healthier workplaces and lives.

Deciding to go through formal social enterprise accreditation was a big step for us. We wanted to make sure that as we grew, our commitment to purpose, impact, and transparency remained locked into the DNA of how we operate.

And let me tell you, Social Traders do not mess around when it comes to their vetting process!

To get certified meant opening up our books and having the Social Traders team independently review our last three financial years of Profit & Loss statements, balance sheets, constitution, and legal structures.

They verified that we exist to create intentional social impact and that we back that up by reinvesting our profits directly into our mission.

It was a detailed process, but standing on the other side of it with official accreditation feels incredible.

As we pull up to our 10-year anniversary at BU Happiness College, this certification is a proud reminder of why we do what we do. We are more excited than ever for the next 10 years of spreading the happiness ripple effect, and proving that business can (and should) be a genuine force for good. 👏 🎉 by @bu_happiness_college

Nobody tells you about the stage where you want to quit 🤯 There are 4 stages to learning any skill:

1️⃣ You don’t know what you don’t know.
2️⃣ You know and it’s uncomfortable. Most people quit here.
3️⃣ You can do it, but it takes effort.
4️⃣ It becomes second nature.

Stage 2 is hard. But it’s meant to feel like that! It’s not a sign you’re failing, it’s a sign you’re learning.

🎧 Declan unpacks this on the How To Be Happy podcast ‘How To Master The Skills Of Happiness.’

Save this for the next time you want to quit 🔖 Which stage are you in? Tell us below 💚

I used to fall into this exact trap: constantly telling myself I’d finally be happy once I hit the next milestone, earned a bit more money, or took that dream holiday.

But every time I got close, I’d just move the goalposts.

In psychology, this loop is known as the arrival fallacy.

When we treat happiness as a future destination, we spend our entire lives chasing it without actually experiencing it.

The moment I shifted my perspective and started viewing happiness as an active skill set instead of a finish line, everything changed.

It meant I could learn it, practise it, and build it right now, right where I am, without putting my life on hold for the future.

Why Your Brain Always Focuses on the Bad News

Have you ever had nine good things happen in a day, but spent all night obsessing over the one thing that went wrong? That isn’t a personal flaw. It’s evolutionary psychology at work.

Our brains naturally carry a negativity bias, designed to fixate on threats and skip over the positives.

But whilst we can’t eliminate life’s challenges, we can build psychological resilience.

By actively practicing gratitude and savouring small wins, you can rewire your brain’s default setting, shift your perspective, and make space to truly appreciate the good in your life.

Did you know there’s actually a reason why feeling happy feels hard to get to? Swipe through to see the history from where the ideas of happiness started to where are are in modern society today - where we have made chasing goals and achievements our whole personality 🤪
With a finish line that keeps moving and you telling yourself ‘I’ll be happy when…’ it’s no wonder you feel confused about what happiness is to you!

Jumping on the ‘kinda chic’ trend with some of our unpopular opinions: doing less is actually kinda cool and helping you to feel less stressed, overwhelmed and burnt out 🙌🏼

We’ve been so conditioned to fill every gap, every quiet moment, every free afternoon, every space in the calendar. Rest starts to feel like something we have to justify.

You’re allowed to mute the group chat. Say no to the plans. Secide that a good enough day is still a good day. Let go of what other people think.

Realising that your happiness isn’t sitting on the other side of your next achievement, once you’ve ticked off the to-so list, getting all of the things done…it’s something you actually build - right now. Your worth doesn’t lie in all of the things you can get done or achieve.

Save this if you needed the reminder 💚
