Something you may not know about me is that I suffer from an autoimmune disease. This diagnosis has changed my life, in so many different ways, and one decision I don't regret is giving up seed oils.

I have switched completely to olive oil, pressed by my own husband in his native homeland of morocco.

Initially it was just for me, and us as a family. But this blessing was so special and too beneficial not to share with others.

And so we did. And we will again with our new harvest in 2027. Updates to follow soon insha'Allah 🤲🏻

To put yourself down on the pre-orders list, please join the WhatsApp group which is linked in my bio.💗

Last night I sent my 11 yr old to run himself a bath before bed. I was busy working towards a deadline and wasn't able to pay attention.

He asked me one of the most strangest questions I've ever been asked. "Mama, can I be a Smurf?"

I obviously looked at him with utter confusion. Then he said "You know the blue thing Moroccans put on their face to brighten their skin". Then I clocked what he meant, he wanted to put on the Nila facemask. In fact on a weekly basis he requests a new "spa" treatment!

Don't worry sisters, the fat in the yoghurt prevents the Nila powder from turning your skin blue. Even though he started painting with the leftovers on the bathroom wall, it all washed off. He also used the mask on his hand where he has an old scar from a childhood cycling injury. And learned the lesson to make sure to use the mask on his neck as well as his face so they didn't end up with two different shades.

So if my 11 yr old has gotten into the habit of self care, what about you sisters?

*DESI CHAI*

*INGREDIENTS*
* Black tea bags/loose leaves.
* Fennel
* Cardamom
* Cinnamon
* Brown sugar
* Milk

*METHOD*
1. In a big sauce pan add a good amount of water and start boiling it on high heat
2. Once it bubbles add a big tablespoon of fennel seeds, 5 broken cardamom pods and two cinnamon sticks
3. Let that boil until the aroma is released and the water turns a green tinge
4. Now add the teabags - depending on how strong you like it - I do 2 or 3 teabags per person (I only use decaf so it's for the flavour not the high!)
5. Once the water turns dark brown add your I put 2 tsp per person sugar and let your water start to evapourate - this is the most important step of chai - because this is when you caramelise the sugar and give the desi chai it's rich and caramel taste - please refer to the second picture
6. When it looks like your water is about to run out this is when you add your milk - use one cup of milk per person
7. YOU MUST LET IT BOIL UP! Then you put the heat down to stop it overflowing - absolutely vital step, in fact I do it 2 or 3 times
8. You pick out the tea bags and sieve the chai into tea cups or into a tea pot
9. You can serve with your breakfast or after dinner.
10. Say bismillah and enjoy!

*HINTS, TIPS AND HISTORY*
* I just want to put some respect on us Desi's name. Karak chai and other versions were actually appropriated from Indian/Pakistani workers in the Middle east and also trade routes with India. Even the 'British brew' is a water downed version of the desi chai because the European found the milk dominant Desi version too heavy - hope you enjoyed the history lesson!
* The original version uses milk but in the Middle east where fresh milk is sparse they use condensed milk as it will not spoil as quickly in the heat. Personally I cannot consume desi chai made with condensed milk as it is far too sweet.
* You can use white sugar but brown sugar gives a deep caramel flavour
* Fun fact - Desis fight over the milk film that forms on the top - it's like a free snack 🤣
* I use whole versions of the seeds but you can equally use powdered versions
* Some versions have just cardamon

*KABULI PULAO (AFGHAN LAMB & CARROT RICE)*

*INGREDIENTS*
* Shoulder of lamb (cut into 2 pieces)
* 2 medium onions (sliced)
* 1 tsp ginger
* 1 tsp garlic
* 2 black cardamom pods
* 5–8 green cardamom pods
* 1 cinnamon stick
* 1 tsp cumin seeds
* 10 peppercorns
* 1.5–2 liters water
* 3.5 cups long-grain Basmati
* 2–3 large carrots
* 2 medium sized potatoes for wedges in the rice
* 1/2 cup raisins
* 1 tbsp oil or butter.
* Handful of slivered almonds (optional)

*METHOD*
1. In a pot or pressure cooker, combine the meat, whole spices (cardamom, cinnamon, cumin, peppercorns), salt, and water. Cook until the meat is tender. Strain the broth (keep it!) and set the meat aside.
2. Heat 1 tbsp of oil or butter in a pan. Add the julienned carrots and raisins. Sauté until the carrots are soft and the raisins have puffed up. Remove and set aside.
3. In a large pot, heat the remaining oil. Fry the sliced onions until golden brown. Add the cooked meat, garlic and ginger and half a tsp of black pepper and fry for 7–10 minutes to develop deep flavor.
4. Add the strained meat broth to the pot with the meat. Once it comes to a boil, add the soaked and drained rice and the potatoes. Cook on medium-high heat until most of the water is absorbed and only about half an inch remains at the bottom.
5. Lower the heat to minimum. Sprinkle half of the carrot, and raisin mixture over the rice. Cover the pot with a tight lid (using a clean cloth or aluminum foil to seal the steam). Let it steam for 15–20 minutes.
6. When ready to serve, gently fluff the rice and dish it out. Top with the remaining caramelized carrots, raisins, and optional fried nuts.

HINTS & TIPS
* Can serve with raita

Every year, the Taste Tribe and I enjoy a firepit at the beach. We've found a very private spot and we call it ours. 🥰

Not only do we dine, unwind and laugh until we cry. We also wait until sunset and pray together on the beach. The serenity of praying whilst the waves are lashing - is something indescribable.

No firepit is complete without the customary marshmallows!

Alhumdoulillah for our sisterhood - love you all fisabilallah. 💗

Be honest... You thought it was a cookie, that's what my husband and children thought, it was so well made it looked good enough to eat!

*Honest review* - this soap is very durable, even after being quite rough with it in the water, it actually kept it's shape and didn't deplete much. I didn't feel like it stripped my skin of it's natural barrier. My hands felt very clean without excessive dryness. However, when I used it on my face I did feel it needed a little moisturiser afterwards. It did not contain any perfume nor did it leave any lingering smells. I love the fact that it's chemical free as this is perfect for someone like me with lupus. If my memory serves me well I believe it also contains honey which is antibacterial too. The sidr has its own unique properties as it contains the natural compound called saponin. The fact that it also contains antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties means that it can help with soothing irritation, reduce itching, and combat mild fungal or bacterial buildup on the skin.

A huge thank you to sister Arooba @cleanempowerment for giving me this opportunity to test her product which was made with so much love and attention to detail and ingredients. Hopefully next time I will be able to try the tumeric and oatmeal soaps!

If you'd like to order a soap from Sister Arooba - please DM her as she is tagged in this video 💗

As much as we love to enjoy the blessings of food, we also have a duty to take care of our bodies.

I have a full time job, 2 children, several autoimmune diseases, asthma and nerve damage but the biggest barrier to overcome was my mindset.

Thank you to my PT @nissa_fit_scot who has helped and guided me these past couple of months in my journey to get fit and healthy especially during peri-menopause.

Please give her a follow as she will begin sharing content soon insha'Allah 💗
