‘My colour doesn’t define me’… The test prints of my book arrived 🔥 Here you can see how the cover looks like! I’m so happy how it turned out 🤘🏾! Now waiting for the final editions! I tried my best to make something pretty about an ugly subject;

I devided the book in 5 chapters about my personal experiences with racism and unconscious bias;
1. at school & while growing up
2. on the streets/public spaces
3. at work
4. in (social) media & politics
5. Racism vs mental health

Size is A5, 158 pages in full colour and it is full with illustrations & comics of the things I experience(d), the book comes with 5 free stickers and a booklet 🔥 and will be available on my upcoming website (soon) & in stores from October the 1st!

The next few weeks I’ll share more of this book and do a little booktour via various artbook events where I’ll be selling it in person 💖👾

Thanks everyone who already pre ordered one or more 🙏🏽 🤗!

DM me if you like to preorder one as well 📧 Feel free to contact me if you have questions regarding this book and/or the subject 🍀

French artist Samplerman reveals how he transforms vintage comics into kaleidoscopic collages. Experience “Ik zie je woorden“, a project which combines poetry translated into images with performance. There are even more firsts at Cross Comix: ‘Pet or Pest’, the latest project of Drawing the Times, and the GRID exhibition with the best one page comics of the year. Belgian artist Judith Vanistendael presents her new album “De Waterlanders” - a week before it’s in the bookstores. And we proudly present the wonderful zine and exhibition of our second Berlin Comix Exchange.

You can also join the scientific conference, ‘Imagination, Mediation & Manifestation’, on the use of visual narratives in healthcare. Speakers include Sabba Khan and Octavia Roodt. Recurring events at Cross Comix are the Makers Market where artists sell unique productions, the Zine Kiosk with the best foreign zines, book presentations, hands-on workshops, visual performances at Rotterdam Central Station, and many other exhibitions and presentations, including a conversation about the influence of the recently deceased grandmaster Marjane Satrapi.

Berlin, Stadt für Alle! 🌈 Thank you to all 10 artists who joined the Berlin Comic Exchange 2.0! In May this year, ten artists gathered at the Renate Comics Library in Berlin to make a collective zine in just four days. Organisers alea and Saskia are now working around the clock to finish the publication 🕰️😅. We are super stoked about all the hard work and creativity everybody all put into their comics! We hope they all look back at this experience with good feelings. Be one of the first to get a copy at the Cross Comix festival Zine Kiosk on September 11 + 12! A lot of the artists who participated in the Berlin Comic Exchange will have a table at the Makers Market at Cross Comix, give workshops and/or do a presentation at the festival. So try to get a signed copy and meet all the artists in person ;) 👆👆👆Swipe to see how this collaboration was born!

A serious note to this post that should have been positive only: we can't ignore what has happened during the Pride in Berlin recently. Berlin should be a city for everyone, but unfortunately it deals with hate crimes just like other places around the Globe. Why in the world do people feel the need to hate other people? We will never understand or support any form of hate. To everyone who feels unsafe, know you are welcome at Renate and Cross Comix, always, no matter who you love, what your name is or what pronouns you use, what you wear or where you are from. We support you in any form and/or shape, because you are beautiful!

Let’s all make the world a little better on a small scale (which can then grow into something much bigger) by judging less and trying to understand more of what we don’t (fully) understand yet.

Our thoughts are with all victims and their loved ones... And with all who are open to anyone - no matter what the differences are.

Big hugs 🩵🩷💚💜❤️🤎🖤
alea, Saskia and the rest of the Renate & Cross Comix crew
