Last week, the Butler School of Music lost a true pillar of our institution. William “Bill” Lewis was an opera superstar whose remarkable career took him to the world’s greatest stages, including the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, and the Salzburg Festival. Yet, for nearly two decades, he chose to share his experience, wisdom, and passion for opera with the students of the Butler School of Music, helping build our opera program into what it is today. Alumni Spotlight 🤘🏼Congrats to Evan Brown (DMA in Opera Performance ‘24) who is covering the role of Don José in Carmen with St. Petersburg Opera. During his time at BOC, Evan showcased his talent in a variety of roles, including Hermann in Pique Dame, Rodolfo in La bohéme, the title role in The Tales of Hoffman, and Don José in Carmen, amongst others. Evan says, “I owe you a huge thank you to Dr. Sanikidze for drilling the “Ou vas tu” section of Carmen into my soul. This Don José cover contract I’m currently doing has been super easy because of the help and guidance I have received during my time in BOC!” We are incredibly proud to see our BOC alumni achieving great things and utilizing their training to excel in the industry. Congratulations, Evan, and toi, toi, toi! @evankbrown @butlersom @tamartatasanikidze @fineartsut by @butleroperacenter
