We're still smiling after Sunday's BOH Creates Youth Board Open Mic Night 😊🎤

A huge congratulations to everyone who took part. It was wonderful to see so many talented young performers take to the stage and share their creativity, confidence and passion with a supportive audience.

Thank you to everyone who performed, attended and helped make the event such a success!

Today I went on a Visit Peak District and Derbyshire members tour of Buxton Opera House. Karey and I talk about the Opera House on every walk so it was a good chance to check up on a few things.

We had a fab tour from Opera House staff and volunteers (thank you so much for giving up your time for us). It was a brilliant reminder of how lucky we are to have this wonderful Frank Matcham theatre here in Buxton. Also it was an important reminder of how much volunteer effort keeps it running. Buxton really is a town that is volunteer powered – from the Opera House, to the Crescent Heritage Trust, Buxton Civic Association and Buxton Town Team – to name but a few.

Oh and I almost forgot my favourite new fact about the dumb waiter in the woman’s toilets 😂 Apparently back in the day, us ladies weren’t allowed in the bar so drinks were brought up to the women’s toilets in the dumb waiter. 😂 I just love that. Oh and how have I never noticed it in all the many times I have been to these loos? But I hadn’t.

There is so much going on here and visiting for a show makes a stay in Buxton extra special. Details on shows, volunteering, becoming a member, or being posh in a box, can all be found on the Buxton Opera House website. See you there soon – oh and if you come on a tour with us we may even tell you a risqué story outside (with only tenuous links to the Opera House 😂) xx
