Things they don’t tell you about raising dogs ♥️ YOU MUST teach them how to accept grooming and physical handling. Good ol slow desensitization work has completely transformed how our dogs feel about grooming: be it tooth brushing, showering, nail trimming 💅, or even tooth scaling 😱! All our home grooming are done unrestrained, unleashed, on the floor, zero distraction needed, zero panic, AND zero physical manipulation 🙌 HOW?

Both our boys accept all grooming after we showed them slowly and patiently (and consistently) that it’s nothing to be scared of 🥹 After all, we love them so much we don’t want them to be terrified of our handling 🥹♥️ #desensitization #trustbuilding

And we’re sharing how we do it! 😍

We’ve documented quite a guide over the YEARS, so YOU and your dogs can achieve this too. It’s all saved in our highlight 💙 “Conditioning” 💙

You might also wanna check out the highlight “Grooming”, if you’re feeling curious and want to see how we groom our burly bears at home! 🤣

Alternatively, if you think nah thanks, do your dog a favor and just YouTube “desensitize nail dog”🤓 Stay patient, stay consistent, and have a bit of humor along the way! Your dogs deserve that much from you 😍 #patiencebuildstrust

Goofy farm dog who loves all animals, VS confident guard/hunting dog with high prey drive 😳✨ #breedinstincts

❗️Biological instincts matter! Even if you have a mixed breed dog, it’s important to study your dog, AND accept that every dog has unchanging instincts that they’re born with 😍 Some of them, like Buyo, has prey drive and dominance that even unprovoked animals recognize from afar. They are more likely to chase preys. Very confident, very independent. Then some, like Osso, is bred to be around farm animals. His gentleness with them wasn’t taught. I can’t take credit for it because sweet boy was born like this 🥹🖤

Why is this so important? 💪 Learning and accepting the characters they’re born with is CRUCIAL in your relationship. It helps us learn how to best teach and train our dogs, how to play with them, how to fulfill them. We need to know what drives them, what they find purpose in, why they do what they do.

I’ve seen so many owners struggle because they don’t realize that the reasons their dogs are so stressful to live with, are also exactly what make them such an amazing dog and representation of their breed. Stressed owners = confused dogs. If you don’t truly understand your dogs’ instincts and drives, you cannot start helping them become the best and most FULFILLED versions of themselves. 🩷 by @buyobear

Teamwork to be their best butlers 🤣

The goal HAS ALWAYS BEEN: ✨Freedom✨ by @buyobear

Life is hard make it harder: wake up at 4am and take your dogs hiking ✨

We only choose trails that:
💛 Is sheltered most of the way
💛 Mountain trails only so it’s more cooling
💛 Has shallow rivers we can cool down in
💛 Incline is okay but mostly flat - no high steps
💛 Short manageable distance

If it’s a more challenging trail we just say no 🙅‍♀️ Hiking is Buyo’s and Osso’s absolute favorite thing, and we will make it happen for them, as long as we can! 💪

Nothing more humbling than being a parent 🤣

Same goes for dog training, tbh! The more you know, the more you realize how little you know. That light bulb moment keeps going off until the room just stays bright all the time 😂

That being said, it makes you realize just because someone has “20 years experience” it doesn’t mean crap if they’re not constantly updating and challenging what they know 🫣 I used to trust “experts’ advice” blindly, back when I knew nothing, until I noticed they’re still the same TYPE of owner/trainer they were 10 years ago. At least now I am very familiar with the traits to look for (and avoid) in an “expert”. ✨ by @buyobear

Off leash is a set of ninja skills: taught, practiced, tested. It’s a privilege earned by the ✨goodest boys and girls✨. Leash your dog. Or train them. 💪💖
