Come sit in my chair & let’s make something pretty 🫶🏼 by @byashleyjesse

1. The version of success you wanted at the beginning might not be the version you want forever.
When you first start doing hair, success can look like being completely booked, working constantly, making a certain amount of money, or having a huge clientele. But your definition of success changes. Eventually, it might look more like having clients you genuinely love, doing services you’re excited about, having control over your schedule, making more while working less, educating, building something outside of the chair, or simply having a life you actually get to enjoy. You’re allowed to outgrow the dream that got you started.

2. Confidence usually comes AFTER you do the scary thing, not before.
I used to think I needed to feel completely ready before making a big move. I’ve learned that most of the things that have grown my career required me to do them while I was still nervous. Sometimes you raise the price, take the client, post the video, invest in the education, or make the career move — and then you become the person who feels confident doing it. You build evidence for yourself by actually doing things.

3. Not every client is meant to be your client — and that’s actually a good thing.
At the beginning, it’s easy to feel like you need to say yes to everyone because you’re trying to build a clientele. But the further I’ve gotten into my career, the more I’ve realized that the best client relationships happen when there’s mutual trust and we’re actually a good fit. Someone choosing another stylist doesn’t mean I’m bad at what I do — and turning down something that isn’t aligned with me doesn’t mean I’m losing business.

I thought this career would teach me how to do hair. I didn’t realize how much it would teach me about myself. 💌💭
