The job's not finished, Parkland-Spanaway! 🤝 It's crazy to think that we're officially in the final stretch of our local Blue Zones Project. Over the last 4 years, we've connected with thousands of residents in the Parkland-Spanaway area and we hope the @bluezones values continue to support you all on your wellness journeys! Our campaign to have 1,000 residents commit to making healthy changes in their lives continues. We are less than 300 people away from our goal and our hope is to close the gap before December 31st. So we're teaming up with Elizabeth's Holistic Health, one of our longstanding Blue Zones Project Participating Organizations, to giveaway a free Spa Day 💆 Everyone who completes the Blue Zones Project Pledge by November 30th and lives in one of our 5 target zip codes will be entered to win! 🔗 To learn more, head over to bluezonesprojectparklandspanaway.com by @bzpparklandspanaway

Video sponsored by @bzpparklandspanaway I recently started going on a journey to get my health to a better place. One of the hardest parts about that journey is going out to eat, so when I learned about the Blue Zones Project and how they’re working with restaurants in the Parkland and Spanaway area to offer healthier food options, I was really excited to check it out, as it makes the healthy choice the easy choice!🤩 Here are 4 spots we checked out, including what my favorites were: @marvelbaycafe who specializes in Slavic cuisine. I loved the beef stew paired with whole grains and the potato and beet salad, but also ask the staff about their Blue Zones menu as their food varies daily 🍛 @riseandshinecabaretcafe a vegetarian restaurant that focuses on nourishing food without sacrificing flavor. My favorites were the Avocado Toast and the Ginger Tofu Buddha Bowl 🥙 @flyingtomatogrillandbar has a small but mighty Blue Zones menu and I highly recommend the whole wheat penne pasta with house made pesto and organic cherry tomatoes 🍝 @208garfield where they use as many local ingredients as possible. My favorites were the soft goat cheese panini, and the beet salad with arugula. 🥪 Blue Zones Project is a community initiative to help improve longevity by influencing environments so the healthy choice becomes the easy choice. Garfield St. is ready for Halloween! 🎃 This morning we hosted the first Adopt-a-Road clean-up for the Garfield St. Business Association, thanks to all of these amazing volunteers and local business owners! From Wheeler St. to 123rd, our group removed litter from the streets surrounding the Garfield community. Elizabeth's Holistic Health even brought out a leaf blower and removed many of the fallen leaves blocking the main walk ways! Tonight, hundreds of kids and their families will be trick-or-treating on Garfield St. from 4-6pm and its safe to say the neighborhood is ready! Thanks again to @arivvacat for serving as our homebase for the volunteer event! Happy Halloween, everyone! Have a safe and fun evening! 🙌 by @bzpparklandspanaway

Great news, Parkland-Spanaway! @eltoroparkland is now a Blue Zones Project Approved Restaurant! 🎊 El Toro Mexican Restaurant & Cantina is a local, family owned and operated favorite restaurant, dedicated to providing their customers with an experience that reflects their culture's hospitality and delicious flavors. We will be hosting a celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 27th and want you to join us! During this event, they will be revealing their new Blue Zones Project Approved menu items! “Blue Zones came along at a really good time for us. We’ve been part of this community since 1989, and we’ve been thinking more about how we can continue to grow and make a positive impact on the people around us, both our guests and our team. We want to be part of something that moves our community in a positive direction. For us, that means finding ways to offer more options for different diets and lifestyles, while still serving the food people know and love us for. We’re not looking to change who we are. We just want to keep getting better, try new things, and do our part to make a difference in the community that’s supported us for so many years." - The Arias Family Save the date and RSVP for updates! #parkland #spanaway #piercecounty #localeats by @bzpparklandspanaway

More memories from our @spanawayrootsrundeep Mural celebration 🎉 From the very beginning, this project aimed to reflect the pride, history, and bright future ahead for Spanaway residents. Over 400 residents shared their input on the design. Dozens of volunteers showed up to leave their mark, resulting in 120+ hours in community service. We couldn't have done it without the support of so many community partners and local businesses: • Our Project sponsors at @multicarefoundations, @virginiamasonfranciscanhealth, and @piercecounty • Our friends at @rotatorcreative for their research and design work • Our BZP Built Environment Subcommittee • Our Branding Campaign Workgroup • Our friends at @wsdot • Our local @acehardware and @sherwinwilliams for donating supplies • Q's Pressure Washing for helping clean and prepare the walls for the mural • Our friends at @spanaway_umc • All of the amazing volunteers who came out and contributed to the installation process And to the amazing @marymann365, we can't thank you enough for leading this project! Showing up early, staying late and doing whatever it took to get this project complete with care! 🙌 The mural lives between 143rd and 145th along Pacific Avenue as you enter Spanaway from Parkland. If you haven't already, make sure you take a moment to go see it for yourself! - #spanaway #mural #art #celebration by @bzpparklandspanaway
The Spanaway Roots Run Deep mural project is officially complete! 🎉 Over 400 community members shared their feedback on the original design concepts. 20+ volunteers showed up over 5 days to work alongside @marymann365 as she brought the final artwork to life - resulting in 120+ hours in community service! The final outcome? A beautiful public art project that was driven by community from start to finish! 🤝 "Your environment always has a significant effect on your health, for better or for worse. In fact, your environment almost always plays a bigger role in your health than the choices you make within that environment." - @danbuettner, Founder of @bluezones This mural was always bigger than a community art project. This mural is a testament of Spanaway's commitment to a healthier, brighter, and beautiful future. Thank you to @marymann365, @wsdot, @bzpparklandspanaway, and everyone else who made this project possible! by @bzpparklandspanaway
