【Sun in the clay -07】

Think stretched, dissonant, and resonating.

We visit Alvin Lucier’s “I Am Sitting in a Room” at different intervals in his 45-minute piece that adds resonant frequencies to a recording of his voice over time until it is unrecognizable. As well as a moment of incredible radio sound effects from a Lights Out! story “Oxychloride X.” The award-winning playwright Arch Oboler’s horror radio drama that started in the 1930s.

Consider this my take on a Halloween episode ;) (10.25.26)

Savoring how life is in this current state, before technological advancements, as they threaten our value and output, have the potential to drive much of this to extinction. We are lucky to gather, share, perform, connect.

When 【Sun in the Clay】 was still a budding idea, I knew someday I would invite Alejandro to do a takeover. I have always been so impressed by their selection and deep well of archival knowledge. Please take time with this one (9.27.26). In the BMR archive soon.

@venn_diagramm, thank you so much.

Note from the selector: This mix was inspired by discovering the music of Luis Perez, whose Mexican ElectroAcoustic and Experimental Music made me feel part of a continuum larger than myself. This mix is meant for Deep Listening and psychedelic reflection.

Note from host: Enjoyed best driving at night. by @c44277788833999

A special thank you to @thehighdivehamtramck for continuing to let us run Current State in their space. by @c44277788833999

the @sonotex.collective has worked very hard to make the 3.1.3 spatial sound festival happen at @andyartcenter this weekend. three rooms, two outfitted with at least 15 speakers, an electroacoustic installation, fixed media works from local and remote sound artists, sound maps, and live performances. all diy. all grassroots. all community driven. come and see the inaugural activation.

Huge honor to be featured in Music from Dimensions Tomorrow alongside so many I admire. Now up at the Mike Kelley Homestead at @mocadetroit.

The Lighteater visual companion was filmed by @dgig313 directed and composed by myself, featuring the incredible @_unity__ as part of my 2024 Lighteater album release on @circle_one_circle.

Experimental scenes really do function as resourceful communities, taking inspiration from everything, pouring it into each other. I’m humbled to be a part of this one.

Thank you to Rachele for inviting me to submit this piece.

We are back activating Black Portal with sound, light, and projection.

For the third event in our summer series, artists will transform the site through spatial sound, sonic experiments, music, and projection mapping, turning the landscape itself into a canvas for experimentation, performance, and public gathering.

This is a joint fundraiser for Neighborhood Art School and Black Portal. Community support helps sustain artist-led programming, popular education projects, and spaces for artists to gather, create, and share their work in Detroit while advancing a vision for more artist-owned and artist-controlled cultural spaces across the city.

Come experience the vibe, support the vision, and help sustain independent cultural spaces in Detroit. by @c44277788833999
