Woohoo!! We have our pellet mill in production. We are back in stock with wool pellets! Perfect for your garden for water retention and natural fertility. These pellets offer slow release nitrogen. Great for our desert soils to reduce water use. Because this is our first batch and we are still learning how to make quality pellets. I am offering 5% off this week for wool pellets. Use code Pellets26 at checkout to save! https://www.cactushillfarm.com/wool-pellets #wool #naturalgarden #desert #woolpellets #farmlife by @cactushillfarm
Im pretty tired of us pretending we can keep killing our ecosystems. We need biodiversity and dependence on pesticides and fossil fuels is a bad choice for a healthy future. Even if a pesticide is labeled "safe", these chemicals continue in the air, water, and food we eat. Insecticides not just kill off pests they also kill of the natural insect predators. Pesticides can harm other species like honey bees and pollinators. Nature has her own way of solving problems if we just step back and stop meddling. #organicfarming #pestcontrol #natural #regenerative #colorado by @cactushillfarm
I did all the proper things, went to college, graduated with honors. And got a job. Sitting in my desk looking out the window, my hands got soft, I just longed to be outdoors. I wanted to be able to create things with my hands, and watch things grow. Even though I loved my job, it felt empty and the daily commute was so difficult. I left a piece of me each day when I left home and tried to pick it up again when I got back. My body and mind started to change, I was diagnosed with a chronic illness and I had to start medication. I worked hard to create a business model that would allow me more independence. It took a long time to get to a point where I didn’t have to rely on a paycheck. That is the saddest thing about capitalism and colonialism, we really are all stuck. It took me years to find the space to be able to step out even just a little of this economic system. I realize I suck at capitalism just generally. It goes against my personality in so many ways that constant pressure to make money. I would rather give away my product than sell it. But I also know as a single mom I need to pay the bills and make sure the kids have what they need. I find the most profound joy in watching a lamb be born, or the crops grow. The joy of gathering my dinner from my garden is so deep. Maybe I have found something better than financial security, I have community and purpose. I feel the sun on my face and the wind in my hair. The work feels real, growing food and fiber for community, caring for the land and animals. I really push against this idea that we are broken. All these nuerodivergent disorders and deficiencies. When really diversity is our strength, we label it as a problem. The system is broken and we are just stuck inside it. We are exactly as we are meant to be, designed for a slower life, filled with meaning. I still believe we were made for community and for sharing and enjoying real food with those we love. For creating with our hands and expressing ourselves with what we make, for caring for each other and the planet. #yarn #sheep #farmlife #knitting #steppingout #l by @cactushillfarm

We have decided to not open the Cactus Hill Farm Tiendita today. Conejos County is under pre-evacuation notice and Platoro, Fox Creek, Magote, and Canon in the Conejos River Canyon are already being evacuated. If you are in the evacuation area please make sure to get out before the water rises. There is concern that the water will be rising higher than before and that some bridges may fail. Check out the Conejos County Sheriffs office FB page to see more and to stay updated on what is going on: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100069325625092 Stay home if you can. Please be safe out there! #staysafestayhome #StayConnected #thisiscrazy #welovethesanluisvalley #weloveantonito by @cactushillfarm

I just loved this audio. It is always so hard to remind ourselves that life is a journey not a destination. Sometimes it can be hard to manage life and all its complexity. Raising sheep will always keep me humble. I often feel like I am falling behind. I am so slow to remodel finish projects and life has thrown me some unexpected curve balls, such as being a single mom and losing my home. But slowly I do make progress and I am always grateful to my family and mis dos niñas preciosas. #sheep #wool #farmlife #colorado #local by @cactushillfarm
