Local legend and one of the funnest humans to share a lineup with @caitlinmoir04 shares some of her story here - a frank look at the interplay between big wave surfing and one’s headspace, her decision not to compete this year and the fire that may have been ignited for next iteration! by @caitlinmoir04

A place and moment where every sensory experience is tickled: the taste of salty water, the touch of warm autumn sun, the sound of fizzing froth, the crisp ocean aromas, and the site of peeling turquoise lines. Hmmmm 🤤 to be alive 💛 @komsurf_ @spice.783 📷: @cornesnyders 🙏🏼 by @caitlinmoir04

FBYC → Cape Point: The Overnight That Aged Us 10 Years We left the marina with nerves, excitement and the kind of confidence only a perfect summer’s day can give you. “Weatherman-no-reef Roddy says it’s going to be a pearler.” Halfway across the bay, the sky said: “Plot twist.” Enter squall. Enter white-out. No land. No boats. Just us and the sudden realisation that the nav lights were not working. Minor detail. Very minor. Absolutely fine. (We prayed. A lot.) Eventually, the apocalypse lifted, Buffels Bay appeared, and like a mirage, our raft-up crew emerged, complete with fresh fish on the braai and wine for emotional support. A few hours later we dropped anchor in the dark, congratulated ourselves, and went to bed like seasoned sailors. The ocean laughed. Rolling swell. No sleep. Beds doing CrossFit. 7am we unanimously decided: “We have learned enough. Let us go home.” Cue the return leg: Rain. Sun. Wind. No wind. All of the elements. None of the cooperation. But, we made it. Still married. Still smiling. Only slightly traumatised. First overnight sail to Cape Point: Unlocked. Ego: Checked. Confidence: Earned. Story: Legendary. Never. A. Dull. Moment. ⛵️😂 by @caitlinmoir04

3,367 - 3,437 km Moçâmedes to Flamingo Lodge We stocked up with some essentials in a huge and impressively first world supermarket in Moçâmedes: meat, veg, fruit, beer, biscuits and thee greatest mayo I’ve ever eaten (?!). Then we topped up Marge and headed in the general direction of Flamingos, knowing that we didnt really know quite where we were going, but hoping the famous i-lodge-ie would be well sign posted. Thankfully it was. After spotting a sign on the surprisingly well kept road that runs to the southern part of the Namibe desert, we headed off into the canyons leading towards the beach, carefully watching our very dodgy cellphone gps to check we weren’t going in circles. The canyons were beautiful beyond words, we could have spent a week exploring them. But we arrived at Flamingos juuuuuust before it got dark. And when we told the people running the show that it had taken us almost a week to get there, we drank free beer for the rest of the evening. by @caitlinmoir04
