I went to the Jake Lang Dearborn Takeover, here’s what I saw:

DISCLAIMER: I am posting these pictures from a Journalistic standpoint. Please do not use any of these pictures for propaganda of any kind.

I arrived around 6pm and there was a sizable crowd that had already gathered. The town hall meeting did not officially start until 7pm. People with flags, speakers, and various signs gathered around the entrance to the Centennial Library, located directly off Michigan Ave.

When walking up I saw a couple people with handguns strapped to their sides, nothing major. But then a man, with what I presume to be, a modded assault rifle passed by. It caught me off guard, seeing such a powerful weapon on the street in broad daylight.

While the initial purpose of the takeover came from Jake Lang’s anti-islam sentiments, many neo-nazis were at the rally in protest of Jake Lang and his followers.

It was interesting to see two groups who have such similar sentiments, hate each other so much. I expected to see many fights between Dearborn residents and outsiders, but I rather saw a lot of infighting between the various groups.

The Nazis who attended the rally believe that Lang is a traitor against his own for being Jewish, despite Lang denouncing his Judaism. The man in white pictured above, had a megaphone and at times was even chanting “Free Free Palestine”. It is important to remember that this group does not support Palestine for the same reasons as many dearborn residents, but out of a hatred for Jewish people.

Two men face another in a crowd of chaos, both fighting for their own beliefs.

Here Jake Langbis pictured, surrounded by riot police, holding a “We <3 Ice” sign. During the rally many of his chants included “Deport all Muslims”, “Bring Ice to Dearborn”, “Deport Mamdani”, and “Deport Abdul El-Sayed”. There was a small group of people directly with him. One whom I met when Jake Lang came to Dearborn almost a year ago.

Ironically, while police focus was on Jake Lang, many of the attendees were fo by @caitscapture

Donald Trump arrived in the early afternoon to visit Dearborns new Ford Headquarters and give a speech to the Detroit Economic Club. This visit was met with much disdain from Michiganders and Detroit’s alike. While Trump stood crooked at his podium, spouting nonsense regarding tariffs, the automobile industry, and Joe Biden, over 200 people stood outside the building in protest of his arrival.

By the time I arrived, police had pre-barricaded the area so no cars could access the roads leading into the building. Many of the officers stayed cordial with the protestors, politely asking them to stay closer to the sidewalk so cars could continue to use the main road. People were spread across the four corners of the intersection into various groups. One corner was filled with signs protesting US prescience in Iran, and our relationship with Israel.

Passing cars were in support of the protest, many honking their horns as they drove past. As the protest grew larger, people began handing out signs for people without one, water, and snacks. One person was even giving out hand warmers as it was in the low 20°s that day.

The pictures I have included are some of my favorite I have taken. It is important to document what is currently happening in this Country, and my goal is to continue to do so.

Always remember:
