A first-time donor may not be your biggest donor.

Yet.

That's what makes donor experience so important.

Today's small gift can become tomorrow's recurring donor, major supporter, volunteer, board member, or advocate.

Bobby's podcast explores why fundraising events should be viewed as relationship-building opportunities, not just transactional moments.

The goal isn't simply to raise more tonight.

It's to build relationships that continue after tonight.

Because the next major donor may already be sitting at your table. ❤️

Before setting a new fundraising goal, go back.

Look at what happened last year.

Which revenue streams performed?

Where did participation drop?

What moments generated the strongest response?

Where did money leak out of the event?

Bobby's episode on analyzing last year's numbers makes a simple point:

Your past event is data. Use it.

Instead of guessing what this year's gala could raise, let the numbers tell you where the opportunities are.

Strategy starts with knowing where you've been. 📊

Your board members can do much more than fill seats.

They can help identify the right guests.

Open doors to sponsors.

Create pre-event connections.

Set the tone around generosity.

And help bring the mission into the room before the event even begins.

Bobby's board-focused episode breaks down five practical ways board members can help fill the room and fund the mission without turning the entire board into professional fundraisers.

Sometimes the biggest untapped resource at your event is already sitting around the board table. 👀

"We've always done it this way."

It's one of the most expensive sentences in nonprofit event planning.

Not because tradition is bad.

Because it can make us stop questioning whether something is actually working.

Bobby's episode on nonprofit mindset challenges organizations to look at their events differently: not from a scarcity mindset, but from an investment mindset.

Instead of asking:

"How can we spend less?"

Try asking:

"What could help us create more?"

Sometimes the biggest opportunity isn't adding something new.

It's finally questioning something old. 🔎

The audience sees the auctioneer walk onto the stage.

They don't see everything that happened beforehand.

Preparation.

Mission research.

Pacing.

Breath.

Mindset.

Room strategy.

Bobby's episode on preparation makes an important point: confidence isn't something professionals simply "have."

It's something they build through preparation.

The performance you see is the result of the work nobody sees.

And that's true far beyond the auction stage. 🎤

The most successful fundraising events are not successful by chance.

They are thoughtfully designed around one goal:

Helping people feel connected to something bigger than themselves.

When the experience is intentional, generosity follows. 💙

An event timeline keeps things moving.

An event experience moves people.

There's a difference.

Guests won't remember every announcement or transition.

They'll remember how your mission made them feel.

When every element of the evening works together to create connection, fundraising becomes more meaningful for everyone involved.

Your mission deserves more than a well-organized event.

It deserves an experience that inspires generosity. ✨

What if your live auction isn't your only opportunity to generate additional revenue?

Bobby's episode on the hidden revenue at every gala explores eight different fundraising games designed to create additional participation and revenue throughout the evening.

Think Golden Tickets.

Heads or Tails.

Gift Card Frenzy.

100s Boards.

Mystery Boxes.

And more.

The important idea isn't which game you choose.

It's understanding that a well-designed event can create multiple opportunities for guests to participate and give.

Your gala may have more revenue potential hiding in plain sight. 💰

Fast talking can sound impressive.

But great fundraising auctioneering isn't a race.

It's about knowing when to speak, when to slow down, when to build anticipation, and when to let the room respond.

Bobby explores this in an episode about why the best auctioneers don't necessarily talk fast.

Because the goal isn't to sound impressive.

The goal is to serve the mission and move the room toward generosity.

Sometimes control sounds a lot calmer than people expect. 🎙️

Think about your favorite movie.

It isn't exciting from beginning to end.

It has moments of anticipation, celebration, reflection, and excitement.

Fundraising events work the same way.

When every part of the evening has purpose, guests stay emotionally connected from start to finish.

The result isn't just a smoother program.

It's a stronger fundraising experience.

Because great events don't happen by accident.

They're intentionally designed. 🎬

Every donation starts with a feeling.

Long before someone raises a paddle, they're deciding whether they trust the mission, feel connected to the cause, and believe their gift will make a difference.

That's why successful fundraising isn't about asking louder. It's about creating an experience that inspires people to say yes.
