📍 Liphook (Hampshire) 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 31st 🇬🇧 🇮🇪 79th Liphook is undoubtedly Hampshire’s crown jewel — bordering Sussex. The 7th is named “Two Counties” in honour of both. Recent renovations (including a few new holes) from MacKenzie & Ebert have stayed true to the initial purpose of this course. Real risk-reward heathland sorcery added to Arthur Croome’s original layout. We threw the balls up for quite the doubles match: Ireland v England. Always a little needle in that one… 👀 David Doherty & I done our country proud with a 3&2 victory. — dovetailing magic on what was a scorching hot day. ☘️ Full review @officialtop100 @liphookgc is quite simply a must visit. by @calocgolf
📍 County Sligo (Rosses Point) 🇮🇪 10th Rosses Point is a Championship links steeped in history. It is most famous for hosting the West of Ireland Open Amateur Championship every year since 1923. Previous winners include McIlroy (twice), Lowry, Harrington and interestingly Harry Diamond. From the clubhouse, to the locker room, the practice facilities, the staff’s warmth — immediately you realise you are visiting an elite operator. They say you can’t birdie them all unless you birdie the first. A memorable start on an opening hole that is reminiscent of the 1st at Royal Portrush was had. After a scoreable short 2nd the difficulty increases at the 3rd. At the 4th, a treacherous par 3 awaits. The purest of strikes, right at the pin, I couldn’t believe my eyes as my ball kept sliding down the right-to-left slope. Whilst I remained on the huge green, a 60-foot putt felt extremely harsh. A tough dance floor. “The Jump” at the 5th features an iconic tee shot overlooking the layout ahead — another stunner. S.I. 18 suggests a birdie could be on the cards here; especially if you can stay out of the bunkers. At first glance, the 6th may seem like the weakest hole on the course. The teeth of this one lies in the many contours located before the green — making it deceivingly difficult to get close to a front flag in particular. 7&8 are both solid long par 4’s. The final hole on the front nine is a stunning par 3 with an unobstructed view of Benbulbin. The 10th, named “Benbulbin” is an open par 4 enabling you to unleash a drive. At the 12th, you come across the “lighthouse” hole which I was warned can be a cardwrecker. My first double of the day suggested the warning was fair. The longest par 3 appears at 16 with a good miss being on the left side of the raised green with heavy rough eager to claim some victims on the right. The 17th, “The Gallery” is an exceptional golf hole you could enjoy playing over and over. Nearby Enniscrone and Strandhill make up the Holy Trinity of courses in the Sligo region. County Sligo reminded me of Royal Troon but with elevation changes; Colt’s fingerprints evident everywhere. by @calocgolf
📍 Castlerock (Mussenden): Lucking out with the weather, we knew from the first tee box we were in for a special day. Playing in a Fermanagh v Antrim 4BBB with two of my best mates, I couldn’t have asked for more — or picked a better setting. Despite the struggle to find a fairway, pulling everything left, I thoroughly enjoyed the layout. The greens were not only aesthetically pleasing but a pleasure to putt on. The placement of the re-contoured bunkers felt fair but also extremely clever. And the panoramic views on certain holes was quite simply breathtaking. The stretch from 8-10 blew me away. The 8th, is a fantastic blind tee shot. A wonderful golf hole in every respect. The 9th, was for me the best par 3 — an intimidating tee shot with danger lurking everywhere. The 10th, requires accuracy off the tee and distance control with your approach to navigate a sloping green with run-offs to the right. The finishing stretch from 16-18 was equally special. The 16th, plays host to a par 3 with a large green. The 17th, we all agreed was the best hole on the course. Finding the superlatives appropriate for how impressive it was may take some time. Truly one of the best golf holes in Ireland. A par to remember here will live long in the memory. Take a moment both at the tee box and later at the green to take in the spectacular views. The 18th is a magical finishing hole, where Jack Legg almost drove the 333-yard green which was arguably the shot of the day. Four down after 9, Mr Maguire and myself were not doing our county proud. We were a little embarrassed in truth. A momentum switch on the 10th, clawing one back, felt pivotal and so it proved to be. We were all square going down the 16th but credit to the father & son Legg duo, they dug deep to finish the match fittingly in what felt like a fair draw — a tail of two nines indeed. A beautiful way to finish my stag do weekend. Feeling extremely blessed to have shared this beauty of a course with such special people. Another core golfing memory. Thank you to Sarah and the team at Castlerock for welcoming us so kindly. Everything about this place has a touch of class. Full review @officialtop100 by @calocgolf
📍 The Island 🇮🇪 (49th GB&I) You know that feeling when you watch a movie at the cinema that blew your mind so much that you can’t wait until it comes out on DVD back in the day? Well, that’s how I feel about my experience at The Island Golf Club today. The type of course that you could not just play once. Genuinely can’t wait to write this review. And you know what? I’ve never been prouder to be Irish. ☘️ @officialtop100 @theislandgolfclub #top100 #golfireland #golf by @calocgolf

📍 Royal Dublin 🇮🇪 23rd - “Island of Ireland” Royal Dublin on the calmest of mornings in late October is a vibe — very fortunate to have again lucked out with the weather. Looking forward to a return in 2027 The conditioning was fabulous. The contours surrounding the majority of the greens a real highlight. Smooth bunkering throughout — and I found a fair few of them. A sneaky birdie made sure I didn’t go back to London without one 😅 Until next time RD, thank you for the wonderful welcome… ☘️ #top100 #golf #golfireland #dublin #linksgolf by @calocgolf
📍 St Patrick’s Links (Donegal) 🇮🇪 5th In 2021, this Tom Doak design was opened. And the rest is history. From the whispers that spread across the Atlantic to the imminent arrival of countless helicopters, within 5 years Rosapenna’s masterpiece has become world renowned. It has not just broken into the World’s Top 100 — it has captured the hearts of golf enthusiasts far and wide. And rightly so. From the bamboozling first hole with a green completely hidden from view to the drivable par 4 at the 18th, St Patrick’s has a touch of everything. It is mesmerising. In time, as the course matures this sensational golfing haven will challenge Doak’s finest pieces of work alongside Bandon Dunes (Pacific), Tara Iti and Ballyneal. Best par 3: 3rd Best par 4: 1st or 14th Best par 5: 4th If the greens can mature into the level of other top links courses expect to see St Patrick’s make further inroads. We lucked out with the weather conditions. Sharing this experience with two of my greatest friends in the world on Irish soil. 📍 Corballis 🇮🇪 46th Corballis Links, often described as the toughest par 66 in the world, is a wonderfully fun golfing experience. Neighbouring The Island, it has been a fabulous duo to start off some October links. Potentially the best value for money round in GB&I this “hidden gem” has some seriously great holes. 13 pars & a few blobs would attest for that. A pleasure to play with young Calum @mcgreevygolftours — whose obvious affection and enthusiasm for the game was a pleasure. An enjoyable walk. A huge thank you to Norman @corballisgolflinks and the team for having us. Full review to follow @officialtop100 #golf #golfireland #top100 #ireland #dublin by @calocgolf
📍 Woburn (Marquess) 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 59th Woburn is located on the Buckinghamshire side of the border with Bedfordshire — with just the casual 3 courses to its name. The best of which (on paper) is the newest, the Marquess course, often seen as more formidable. Opened in 2000, Peter Alliss (amongst others) had their say on the fabric of the courses design across 2,000 acres of mixed woodland. As tree-lined as it is, I was well informed on the first tee that its siblings were even tighter affairs. Certain holes open up, offering the chance to take them on. You can see why the course has hosted some prestigious events such as the British Masters, English Amateur and Open Qualifying. “The Jewel to the Crown” was an exciting prospect… Some of the holes that stood out included the collection of par 5’s. The split fairway on the 7th will give you a severe headache at the tee. On the left side of the trees there is a narrower, bolder shot to take on. Whereas on the right side it offers a safer option with a flatter lie. I remember as a kid watching Matt Fitzpatrick eagle this hole at the British Masters in 2015 — I doubt many can say the same. At 538 yards, this hole will putt manners on most. The 14th, was my favourite par-3. I had an argument recently with a fellow golf obsessed friend who believes par-3’s over 210 yards are “pointless” — honestly? I can think of multiple examples to counter that. The 14th on the Marquess slots right into that conversation. The fairways may still be recovering from the heatwave but the dance-floors were flawless throughout. Lusciously green and a pleasure to putt on. The routing from hole-to-hole felt natural and enabled our four-ball to feel like it was “millionaire golf” on a glorious Sunday morning before the inevitable days where the weather turns for the worse. In a year where I have embarked on a great journey, if Woburn were to be the last Top 100 course I play in 2026, I would be more than happy with that. A delightful setup in general. A great W for @ccol1 & I — Mr Cousins was the star of the show out there today 👌 Full review @officialtop100 by @calocgolf
📍 Saunton (East & West) 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 20th & 53rd Arriving @sauntongolfclub , for an eagerly anticipated 36 hole Sunday, little did I know what was in store. The high quality of the golf courses. The sheer drama of matchplay moments in its finest form. The level of enjoyment from my company. It was the type of golfing experience you will remember forever. Scratch that. The type of walk you will always cherish. From that opening shot on an elevated tee box overlooking the 1st of the East with a prevailing wind to that glorious final stretch of holes in the summer sunshine on the West course — everything that Saunton threw at us in between had so much beauty. The more you play these elite courses the increasing likelihood of drawing upon natural comparisons will present itself. Having recently played and rated County Sligo extremely highly, I was beforehand skeptical of Saunton (East) being better as the rankings suggest. Truthfully, there’s not much in it. In fact, I saw striking comparisons if anything. Traditional links vibes with modern twists throughout. We played both courses in reverse order to the Scratch Open occurring on the same day. As a result, some of the pin positions were filthy. The 11th on the East in particular. Undoubtedly, The East is Devon’s finest. Sweeping sand dunes that make it more than worthy of its inclusion within England’s Top 20; GB&I’s Top 50. What were my favourite holes? Par 3: 17th (East) + 16th (West) Par 4: 18th (East) + 15th (West) Par 5: 2nd (East) + 17th (West) My full reviews of both the East & West courses will soon follow @officialtop100 There is simply no question that I will return to Saunton. Hopefully many times. The place was as peaceful as it was exquisite. The long journey back to London felt irrelevant. Two betterball matches that went to the wire — both fittingly finishing A/S. There was really only one winner on the day. Golf. Thank you Alex for being not only a wonderful host but seriously enjoyable craic. And also to Steve & Paul — fabulous lads. by @calocgolf
📍 Parkstone 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 33rd 🇬🇧 🇮🇪 84th The finest golf Dorset has to offer. Parkstone is so much more than that. The place breaks straight into my personal Top 10 without hesitation. Comfortably within the GB&I Top 100 (currently 84th) and for good reason. From the wonderful opening par-4 to the closing 209 yard par-3, it is seaside heathland gem that needs to be played. My favourites included the elegant sister holes at 12th & 13th. Alongside the breathtaking short holes at the tricky 14th & 16th which was reminiscent of the shortest hole at Hindhead. Clearly from the photography we lucked out with the weather — particularly across the back nine through a golden hour to cherish. The majority of the time I write my full review the following day. Yet, I am currently lost for words as to the beauty of the entire experience. The company was as good as the walk. My boy & I managed a betterball combined 47 points on the way to a 5&3 dub. However, it was the appreciation we received from the other two gentleman that stood out on the train home. A touch of class. Cheers to blossoming friendships and to Parkstone itself. There’s simply no way you could only play this course once. Appreciate the warm welcome from a former Ealing GM — very grateful. And to our host for nothing but good vibes.
