✈️ Congratulations to Marcus Hawkins on completing his first Tiger Moth solo today! Marcus joined CFG earlier this year as an already qualified taildragger pilot looking to complete a Tiger Moth conversion. How many days do you think the Tiger grin will last?

A throwback to finally taking @thatcanadiangirl flying in a Tiger Moth at the VAC Old Warden fly in, only 15 months overdue.

Bring back the warm summer days for open cockpit flying please!

✈️ £7,500 flying scholarships available for 2027!

The Coachmakers’ Leatherland Flying Scholarships are now open for applications, offering four awards worth £7,500 each to help young people take their first steps towards a PPL.

Open to applicants aged 17–30, the scholarships are designed to support leisure flying and personal development, with funding normally covering around 50% of the cost of the standard hours required for PPL training. No previous flying experience is needed, although a keen interest in aviation is essential.

✈️ Could you use yours to learn to fly a Tiger Moth?

At Cambridge Flying Group, based at Old Warden, we offer the opportunity to experience the unique challenge of flying a vintage Tiger Moth. If you’re successful in securing a scholarship, why not consider completing your training with us and discovering the joys of flying one of aviation’s most iconic aircraft?

📅 Applications close: 31 January 2027

🔗 Find out more about the eligibility criteria and how to apply: https://www.coachmakers.co.uk/aerospace-awards/

If learning to fly has been on your wishlist, this could be the opportunity to get started!

✈️ Another Tiger Moth conversion student has taken to the skies solo! Congratulations, James!

After several busy days of multiple training flights, James has completed his first solo in the Tiger Moth. He described the experience as 'Pure joy' and we couldn't agree more. A little different from the heavy metal he flies for his day job, but it sounds like he's getting to grips with vintage flying nicely!

If learning to fly a Tiger Moth is on your wishlist, get in touch. We'll work with you to put together a training plan that suits your experience and requirements.

✈️ You never know who you might spot at the controls of one of our Tiger Moths!

Last weekend, Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton, Chief of the Defence Staff, renewed his SEP rating with us.

Following a couple of refresher flights with Mike W, Rich was ready for his proficiency check with examiner Mike D — and we're pleased to report he passed!

If you're looking to renew your SEP rating in something a little different, or fancy a Tiger Moth or tailwheel conversion, get in touch to find out how we can help you.

Nothing like going out for a few circuits to stay Tiger current, to find the Head of Training and one of the instructors to the side of the runway watching you land. No pressure 😅

Thanks @scotty_butler for not filming the crap 3 pointer that followed 😂

✈️ Meet the winner of the 2026 Sir Geoffrey de Havilland Flying Scholarship - Maisey Greenhow @maisey.g7

The Coachmakers Aerospace Awards Committee said 'The award to Maisey Greenhow was made amongst a genuinely very high quality set of applicants this year and the Coachmakers are very proud to welcome Maisey into our group of alumni who we enjoy supporting and working with into and beyond their early careers. We are all very pleased to be part of seeing Maisey developing her flying, her personal and her professional skills as part of this wonderful scholarship programme.”

Maisey said 'First of all, a massive thank you to the Coachmakers for this incredible opportunity! I still feel like I’m pinching myself that I’ve been selected as the winner of the 2026 Sir Geoffrey de Havilland Flying Scholarship. I’ve always had a huge passion for aviation and have dreamed of becoming a pilot for as long as I can remember. To now have the opportunity to earn my PPL in such a historic aircraft as the de Havilland Tiger Moth is something I feel incredibly lucky and honoured to be able to do”. “I’m really looking forward to getting started with Cambridge Flying Group and making the most of this incredible experience!'

We look forward to welcoming Maisey to CFG and teaching her to fly our Tiger Moths!

✈️ Saturday saw us welcoming the shortlisted applicants for the 2026 Sir Geoffrey de Havilland Scholarship to CFG for their interviews and trial flights. ✈️ Introducing the next generation of pilots!

It was lovely to see 2025 Coachmakers Scholarship winner Emma Wood @girl.on.the.wing introducing the next generation to our Tiger Moth IZ during the @goodwoodrevival

It looks like Charlotte rather enjoyed her experience in the cockpit, and we’re hoping it’s the start of a lifelong love of vintage aviation!

Perhaps one day we’ll welcome her back to IZ, this time to take to the skies and fly with us. 💙

Here’s to inspiring the next generation of aviators!

✈️ IZ and the team are safely home after a fantastic weekend at @goodwoodrevival!

We loved seeing everyone embrace the period dress theme, and these photos offer a glimpse of some of the outfits our team chose for the occasion.

Sadly, the glad rags are now packed away until next time, and it’s back to regular flying gear once more!

✈️ After a couple years of poor weather and failed attempts to reach @goodwood for the @goodwoodrevival, we've managed to get IZ and the crew there for this weekend.

Despite the weather's best attempts to foil plans John and Angus safely landed yesterday evening, ready for the Freddie March Spirit of Aviation launch party 🥂

If you're visiting over the weekend please do speak to the team and tag us in your photos.
