A faster first step starts with how you push ⚡️

Coach Jason breaks down kneeling starts. One of the drills we use to teach athletes how to drive their hips forward and push into acceleration.

The goal: project forward, use your arms, and push through those first few steps. Small details that help athletes get moving with purpose. 💪

Is it possible to get faster while you’re in season? ⚡️

Oakton Field Hockey is showing it’s possible with improvements of up to 0.22 seconds in the 10 yard dash!

Acceleration is a huge part of field hockey. Creating separation, closing down an opponent, and getting to a loose ball all depend on how quickly you cover those first few yards.

With properly dosed speed training, athletes can continue getting faster throughout the season. The key is managing the volume around practices and games while keeping sprint quality high.

Athletes do plenty of running during the season, but short bursts and conditioning don’t always give them opportunities to reach full speed. Both acceleration and max-speed work deserve attention.

Intentional, timed sprints help us track progress, provide feedback, and guide training. Pair that with coaching proper sprint mechanics and allowing full recovery between reps, and we can keep developing speed throughout the season.

Glute Ham Raises are one of our go-to exercises for building a stronger posterior chain 💪

The muscles along the back of your body often don’t get enough attention. Strengthening your glutes and hamstrings can help you sprint faster, jump higher, and move with more control.
