Last week, members of the Campo team attended the Novogradac 2026 Historic Tax Credit Conference in St. Louis, Missouri, where they connected with industry colleagues.

It’s always a great time catching up with familiar faces and making new connections at industry events, and this week took our team from Phoenix to St. Louis.

John T. Campo, Jr. and Mary Gilmore spent time networking with hospitality owners, developers and industry colleagues at The Lodging Conference in Phoenix, while Shelby Shankle, David Clement and David Clement attended the Novogradac 2026 Historic Tax Credit Conference in St. Louis.

Earlier this week, Louisiana’s SHPO hosted the first SHPO Connect Conference, where 18 SHPO representatives from across the country gathered in Baton Rouge to exchange ideas and learn from one another.

Campo was honored to be one of the sponsors of this gathering for the professionals who provide invaluable guidance, clarity and partnership throughout the historic rehabilitation process.

John Campo, Mary Gilmore, and Campo Historian Shelby Shankle also presented several projects highlighting our team’s experience working with SHPOs across the country.

A first look at what lies ahead in Wheeling, West Virginia.

Miriam, Shelby and Amy are on site at the historic Marsh Stogies building, with its iconic sign providing the perfect backdrop. This initial visit marks the beginning of an exciting new project as our team assesses the property and begins charting the path forward.

Last week, Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser graciously took time out of his busy schedule to stop by and say hello to John and the Campo team.

Lieutenant Governor Nungesser has long supported historic preservation efforts throughout Louisiana, and we appreciate his continued work to help protect and celebrate the places that tell our state’s story. We are grateful he took the time to visit with our team! by @campo_arch_id

After wrapping up some drawings, deadlines, and travel, a few of the Campo crew stepped out for a little Friday lunch. 🍔

A few moments from a memorable day in Amarillo!🤠
The Campo project team recently gathered with ownership, project partners, and members of the community to celebrate the next chapter of the historic Herring Hotel.
From @gilmore_ma sharing the vision for the project to our team enjoying the excitement of the day, it was a special opportunity to recognize the journey ahead.
The Herring Hotel brings together the full range of Campo’s services, including real estate development, historic tax credit consulting, architecture, and interior design. Thank you to owner Todd Harmon for trusting our team to be part of such a monumental project. by @campo_arch_id

Some moments are simply a God thing.

During a recent site visit to Vicksburg, John, Mary and Holly arrived early and stopped at a local coffee shop filled with vintage décor and memorabilia. While looking around, Mary spotted a cassette featuring a rendering John created for Campo Electronics in the early 1990s.

Of all the coffee shops, in all the cities, on that particular day, they happened to walk into the one holding a small piece of John’s history from more than 30 years ago. What are the odds?

The owner graciously allowed John to take the cassette home, and we could not have imagined a better souvenir from the trip. Add in a great atmosphere, delicious coffee and a little on-site lesson about flashing for Holly, and it became a day worth remembering.

If you are ever in Vicksburg, be sure to stop by @hwy61coffee you never know what you might find. by @campo_arch_id

This week for Preservation Month, we’re recognizing some of the Campo team members who put care, precision, and dedication into keeping historic gems alive. Captured during field site visits, these photos show real moments of the work that it takes to preserve what is there, honor what was, and protect historic buildings for what may come next. Only a handful are pictured, but their efforts represent the everyday commitment behind Campo’s preservation work.
