Brandon Patrick Beards 12/3/84 - 12/29/25

It was August of 1998 when I met Brandon at freshman football camp and I couldn’t know it at the time, but I was meeting a best friend who would be a major part of my life for the next 27 years. Now in December of 2025, I never imagined I would have to say good bye.

Life’s funny that way - you’re goofing off in school and playing sports together year round not realizing you’re forming an unshakeable, rock solid bond that’s going to serve you as you become adults, men, fathers.

Brandon gave new meaning to the word loyalty. He was always in my corner and a fierce fan, which meant screaming like a maniac for me to get in the game against Navy despite being told he was sitting behind the starter’s parents. That was Brandon though - willing to be there for you no matter the circumstances.

Through everything - college, Iraq, my dad passing - he remained true like a brother even without the blood.

Perhaps the most joy I saw out of him was seeing him beam with pride about the family and life he created with his wife. He’d have me on the phone for 30 minutes breaking down his daughter’s or son’s game, not because of the outcome but because it mattered to him to see his children grow. He’d say all the time to me how lucky he got to find his wife and little slice of heaven out in rural Jersey.

My heart breaks for his wife and family. My heart breaks that he leaves a giant void and we won’t be able to do all the things we wanted to together.

I’m blessed he came into my life and never wavered. I’m blessed to have a friend who became family.

I’ll miss you Brandon, but I guess knowing you, you’ll never be too far. by @boldamericanpod
