Remember that dance party you lovedโ€ฆ that no longer happens? Do you know why it stopped? And if youโ€™re an organizer, has a venue ever told you it couldnโ€™t continue because admission fees and bar sales werenโ€™t covering the costs? Sometimes, the dancers were there. So was the desire to keep going. But the numbers didnโ€™t add up. We all want a good dance floor, air conditioning, quality sound, a great location and affordable admission. But are we helping to support that? โ€œThey just want to make money.โ€ Often, we simply want to cover costs and avoid losing money. The return may come later, when someone joins a course or books a private lesson. Thereโ€™s also value in seeing our students have a place to practise, improve and build friendships. Hosting a dance night takes more than opening the doors and playing music. Often, the organizer also DJs, runs the bar, works the door and cleans up afterwards, without being paid for those roles. If someone had to be hired for every task, many events wouldnโ€™t happen at all. When we go to a pub to hear music, do we bring our own drinks? At a restaurant, do we use the table and service to consume what we brought from home? Why should a dance party be different? โ€œBut I donโ€™t drink.โ€ It doesnโ€™t have to be alcohol. Water, juice or coffee also help. If everyone who could afford it bought something during the night, that would already be meaningful support. Not everyone can afford to buy something every time, and that deserves full respect. The question is about those who can, who spend at other bars and clubs but donโ€™t offer the same support to their own communityโ€™s space. If that place gives us so many good moments, why not take care of it too? Of course, a practice session after class may allow outside drinks. A party with a staffed bar works differently. Support starts with respecting the rules and not bringing outside drinks without permission. When a dance night disappears, the community loses too. The weekly gathering, the conversations and a place where so many friendships began. This matters to dance communities everywhere. Caring for our community includes caring for the spaces that welcome us. โค๏ธ ๐Ÿ’ฌ Have you los by @carlosandfernanda
Four intense days of Be My Guest, filled with learning, dancing and good company! โค๏ธ You are wonderful dancers and professionals, but what touched us most was your warmth, humility and willingness to keep learning. Taking the time to study Brazilian Zouk, its roots and its essence shows how much you care about your own dancing and what you share with your students. Thatโ€™s something we would love to see more of in the dance community. This video is just one of the sequences we worked on today, chosen to close our training together. A little glimpse of everything we explored over these four days, with so much more behind it than a short video can show! Weโ€™re so happy to have welcomed you as students, connected as fellow professionals and found new friends along the way. Weโ€™re proud of you and canโ€™t wait to see this knowledge grow in your dancing and your classes. Thank you for trusting us and giving so much of yourselves. Weโ€™re already looking forward to dancing together again! โค๏ธ by @carlosandfernanda
