Which registrations have achieved CarReg’s highest completed sale prices? 👀

We’ve ranked some of our highest-value sales. To keep prices confidential, the list shows the order the sales rank in, not what they sold for. It includes plates from our own stock and commission sales, where we marketed and sold plates for private owners and other dealers.

Short registrations obviously lead the way, with 1x1 plates taking the top 10 💥

Who said the car had to be the main character?👀

#numberplates #privatenumberplate #personalisedreg #privatereg #carreg by @carreguk

Short answer: yes, they can be. Raised characters are allowed, provided the plates meet UK number plate regulations and the relevant British Standard, BS AU 145e for plates fitted from 1 September 2021.

What can make them illegal?

❌ Two-tone or shaded characters designed to create a 3D effect
❌ Italic or incorrectly stylised characters
❌ Incorrect character sizes, layout or spacing
❌ Patterned or non-reflective backgrounds

Legal UK number plates need:

✅ A single shade of black characters in the prescribed font
✅ The required BS AU 145e and supplier markings
✅ Correct character sizes, layout and spacing
✅ A reflective background: white at the front and yellow at the rear
