Happy Birthday to my best friend! I love you so much! Hope you have had the best day. Grateful for another year together ❤️ by @cassidee.davies

Happy 8th anniversary to my favorite person. Eight years married today, and I can honestly say I love you more than ever.

This past year has been the hardest year of my life, and through every challenge, you’ve been by my side. You never wavered. You loved me on the days I couldn’t be myself, celebrated every small victory, and reminded me to keep believing that better days were ahead. I truly don’t know how I would’ve made it through without you.

Thank you for your patience, your strength, your endless support, and for choosing me every single day. You have been my safe place through it all.

I’m so grateful for the life we’ve built together and for the one we’re still building. I love you endlessly, and I can’t wait to see what the years ahead have in store for us. ❤️ by @cassidee.davies

Had the best time at the Modwella retreat this weekend! 🤍 I’m so grateful to work for such an incredible company and to have coworkers and bosses that I truly consider friends. We laughed, made so many great memories, and had an absolute blast.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this weekend so special. I’m so thankful for the friendships, the memories, and the opportunity to be part of such an amazing team. by @cassidee.davies

One year ago today, I got a phone call no husband ever expects to receive.

Cass had a seizure after playing volleyball.

In that moment, I had no idea our lives were about to completely change.

What followed was confusion, fear, unanswered questions, multiple ER visits, a three-week hospital stay, and eventually a diagnosis we’d never heard of: anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis, a rare autoimmune condition that affects the brain.

I haven’t really posted about it. Honestly, I haven’t posted much of anything at all. When you’re in the middle of something that heavy, the world gets smaller. Everything outside of getting through the next day fades into the background. Part of me didn’t know how to talk about it. Part of me wasn’t ready. And I know some people seeing this had no idea any of it happened.

But one year later, it feels worth sharing. Not because I have all the words for it, but because this year changed us, humbled us, and reminded us what really matters.

There were a lot of dark days. A lot of moments where we didn’t know what was coming next. A lot of moments where I just wanted my wife back.

But there were also miracles. Doctors, nurses, family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and even strangers showed up for us in ways we’ll never forget. People prayed for Cass, checked in, brought food, sent messages, helped with work, sat with us, and helped carry us.

We’re especially grateful for the medical teams at St. Mark’s and the University of Utah. Some of those people will always be part of our story.

Healing hasn’t been one big moment. It’s been a lot of small ones, stacked together over time.

This past year taught me how fragile life is. How much ordinary moments matter. How powerful prayer, love, and community can be. And that sometimes you don’t realize how strong someone is until you watch them fight for their life and slowly find their way back.

Cass is doing so much better.

These photos are pieces of the journey. Some are hard. Some are beautiful. All of them remind me how far we’ve come.

To everyone who helped carry us through this past year, thank you. We’ll never forget it. ❤️ by @cassidee.davies
