A year ago, I commissioned a poem by the wonderful Lichfield poet Joss Musgrove Knibb. I knew she would write something beautiful but ‘Lichfield from Above’ surpassed all my expectations. The idea for the project started with a conversation with my friend Julian Fisher - we first chatted about it over a coffee on a sunny afternoon in Lichfield but had no idea that it would grow into something so special. Last Wednesday we hosted the first ever recital of Lichfield from Above at The Hub at St Mary's, Lichfield Julian Fisher, myself and my Cathedral Hearing teammates Lucy Watty and Andigoni Bevins worked so hard to make the event a success and we were delighted to be joined by so many dignitaries, people from the creative community, passionate Lichfieldians, patients, friends and family. Daniel Buckroyd from the Garrick theatre was our compere for the evening and did an absolutely wonderful job. The team at the Hub made sound, lighting and organisation look easy! Joss’s recital of the poem (the main event) was so moving. We also ran a school art competition - entrants were invited to think of one word that says ‘Lichfield’ to them. We received over 220 entries from primary schools across the district and selected nine winners who were presented with creative writing prizes on the evening. The poem was also made into a vellum scroll by local Lichfield firm Hilton Studios and will be permanently displayed at The Hub at St Mary's, Lichfield. We hope you will all come to see it! It was a pleasure to host such a special evening at The Hub at St Mary’s, bringing people together to hear ‘Lichfield from Above’ for the very first time. 🪶 A wonderful celebration of words, creativity and everything that makes Lichfield special. 💚 Beautifully written by local poet Joss Musgrove Knibb and commissioned by our practice owner Laura Evans, this unique work celebrates our wonderful city, its history and the people and places that make it so unique. Our team are incredibly proud to have brought this event to Lichfield and to celebrate the creativity, stories and community spirit that make our city such a special place. Special thanks to Daniel Buckroyd from the Garrick Theatre for being our compere for the evening, the choir from Christ Church school and all of the local children who took part in our art competition. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening so memorable. 💚 📍 Proud to be part of the Lichfield community. #Lichfield #LichfieldCommunity #LichfieldEvents #VisitLichfield #Staffordshire #CathedralHearing by @cathedralhearing
Wednesday night at The Hub could not have been more special. Local poet Joss Musgrove-Knibb delivered her first public recital of ‘Lichfield From Above’ – which was then officially gifted to the city and its people – to a grateful and inspired audience of officials, business leaders, school pupils and locals. The journey to this moment started with a conversation between Laura Evans from Cathedral Hearing and We Love Lichfield’s Julian Fisher about the importance of the spoken word in Lichfield. Event organiser and host Laura then commissioned the work by Joss, which Lichfield Garrick’s Chief Executive and Artistic Director Daniel Buckroyd said will become “part of the fabric of the city… not just about Lichfield but a part of Lichfield”. Joss later told the Echo that “this is a dream come true for any poet” – not least in a city as “utterly extraordinary” as this one.
