Listening to James Baldwin’s “Nothing Personal” and heard what my creative spirit has wanted to put in words.
… My label changes yet the anguish within is constant, and has somethin to do with the irreducible gap between the self one invents, the self one takes one’s self as bein( which by definition is provisional at best) and the undiscovered self, which at any time can murda the provisional self. Most mornings, I feel like I walk through a door of thoughts of what I thought made me the artist I was-and find those elements to be useless fragments while trying to piece together my authentic self. Or instead I own all the chapters I’ve travelled and weave them together in beautiful knotted swatches of color to show I am all of it. Couple that with the play with foreground and background to ask ‘what are my own thoughts and how much is the result of the creative mental spaces I’ve moved through over the years?”

Would be a great 18x24 and up. You have the wall, I got the paint. And the words are made abstract on purpose, but can still be phrases personal to your story. I also have a fabricator to make a dope sculpture. Let’s talk! Reach out to Amber through the email in the bio >>> @cbabi

We are inundated with so much information, it is hard to know what are our own thoughts or some ish we let get in and cloud our perspective on things. Beyond that, using the text to create some amazing textures is super fun and I don’t know how a word or thought will alter the landscape. One stroke can create a new exchange and I love that!

I love when the mental dump clashes with a flow that resembles both the script on walls and the essence of urban decay. Done by both script and palette knife treatment. This series brings me so much peace.

These are all 5x7 acrylic on board studies. Will post some of the larger paintings based on these as they come. As much as they are about inspiring our youth, they are also to give voice to our inner child and let them dream again. See something that resonates, please inquire for a commission. These are now available.
