If you don’t want to sit through the credits, get your ass up and walk out the movie theatre (this will be a bit longer than needed so bear with me). pics -> @iamjerr_

There was a time when I sat on my bed watching the blades of my ceiling fan slice through the air—no motivation to move, breathe, or even really live. I had no confidence in the life before me, I saw it as an overstretched path of misery. How could life get any better? I saw the people I was surrounded by and not a single person seemed to be possessed with a spirit of motivation in the slightest. If this was my future, why would I keep pushing forward at all? At that moment, I decided to give up—PLANNED to give up. Yet every single time I tried, I wasn’t able to.
Up until I got to university—and even during my first semester there—life had sprinkles of joy but overall felt lackluster. Through it all, I still kept going because I felt like I was left with no other options. I gave up before and that didn’t work out, so now I was stuck with persevering.
It didn’t happen all at once but life slowly became brighter. I met individuals that reached deep into my being and pulled the fire out of me. I got involved with missions that left me feeling fulfilled in a way I never thought was possible. And suddenly, I was being challenged in ways that were unimaginable. Challenges that would have left me lying on my bed, watching my ceiling fan, and believing that giving up was the better option. But this time was different because I found achievement in perseverance.
This change crept up on me silently and chose to remain. I went to counseling, I opened up to the people around me, I allowed others to love me and in turn found a way to love myself.
These degrees mean more to me than representations of my learning. They are reminders of the challenges I faced, the love that I realized has always been around, the pain of being a woman in a place that doesn’t want to see you flourish, and a drive to find a way to flourish regardless of it all.
As of May 2026, I will be the first woman in my family to gain—not one degree but two. And god, I have never been more grateful to be alive than I am in this moment. by @ceciliaa.nicole
