Today we worked on a combat drill that combines footplacement, striking while working from the clinch. The contender has to learn to act, anticipate and react under pressure in a urban setting with limited space.

This drill improves cardio, technique and cognitive & motoric function of the body.

Vechtsport heeft 3 belangrijke voordelen.

#contender #challenge #fight #sport #Amsterdam by @cedricthecreator87

The art of shadowboxing.

Almost everyday I go for a few rounds of shadowboxing. Getting in the right stance, tuck the chin in, control the breathing and start throwing hands, feet, knees, elbows, feints, slips, rolls and weaves. And the most important thing to do, focus and pretent to face an actual opponent because you train your mind and body to mimic a fight.

Why? The body gets a physical workout, the heartrate goes up, the lungs start working and you burn energy & calories. And you learn to perfect your form, because good form = good technique.

A man must be able to pull himself up and set personal records.

This is my personal record, can you beat me?

Stay ready. The typical warming up before the real training.

HIT. KICK. COMMIT.

This is Ruudje. He became a Contender to lose weight and get fighting fit.

This session was all about the pads: three-minute rounds of punches, slips, knees, kicks and push-ups.

The goal is simple: lose weight, move like a fighter and think like a warrior.

We keep working until the clothes are soaking wet. No shortcuts. No wasted rounds.

That’s how a Contender trains.

Training in Amsterdam-West.

WHY I STARTED CONTENDER WORKOUT.

My background is in karate, wrestling, kickboxing and ground fighting. Over the years, I learned that martial arts can offer much more than preparing for competition.

That is why I teach the practical, self-defence side of these styles.

Contender Workout is for people who want to get fit, learn a mix of fighting skills and bring more structure into their daily lives. You don’t need experience or the ambition to compete. We start at your level and build from there.

You train your body, learn useful skills and develop the discipline to keep moving—even outside our sessions.

This is martial arts for everyday life.

A Contender isn’t built through one type of training.

We train striking to hit and move.
Grappling to control and adapt.
Conditioning to build a body that performs.
Budō to develop discipline and resilience.

Different elements. One complete program.

Build your body. Sharpen your skills. Strengthen your mind.
