Our fall Artist in Residence Dan Luedtke @dnmldaniel just left us and our hearts are so full and tender! We hit it off so hard with Dan for the four weeks he joined us here and we look forward to a life time of friendship!! 🌀 We had sooooo much fun making stuff, dancing, karaokeing, making delicious food, living, laughing and loving! Dan asked us right out the gate if we thought it would be cool to have a screen printing set up for the studio and we definitely did… so he SO generously built CS an exposure unit table, and set us up with all of the goods to make it happen! He taught a workshop for our studio members on how to use the whole setup, burnin our screens, printing with underglaze and applying it to our ceramics. Thank you Dan for bringing the keep-on-giving gift of screen printing to the studio, eternally grateful! Keep your eye out for a siiiiccckkk shirt that Dan drew up for us (sneak peak on pic 4) we will be printing them here soon!! Big love Dan, see ya out there! 💋 💫 Daniel Luedtke is an interdisciplinary artist and musician living in Tallahassee FL. He received an MFA in Printmedia at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Bachelors of Music Performance from Augsburg University in Minnesota. He is an Assistant Professor of Art at Florida State University. Luedtke’s interdisciplinary work illustrates ways that health, mortality and bodily pleasure are quantified, categorized and assigned value. These ideas are often illustrated by emphasizing the physicality of printed images in installations and other flat-but-dimensional objects. He has been exhibited nationally and internationally in galleries and museums such as the Walker Art Center, Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, Tom of Finland Foundation, Museum of Art and Design in New York, the Schwules Museum in Berlin. His work has been published in printmaking anthologies by Princeton Architectural Press and Chronicle Books. by @ceramicsschool

Hello!! Please join us this Thursday evening at 7 - 9pm to celebrate our sweet friend Mel Risch @____groundwork and the wrapping up of their residency here at Ceramics School! Mel will have pots for sale fresh out of the wood firing we did over the weekend - some truly magical stuff… and will be giving a brush making demonstration! Mel had some expensive car trouble while they were here and could really use the cash to get the trouble fixed up - so they can get back on the road to North Carolina!! 🌱 We had such a wonderful three weeks with Mel, we did sooooo much! Mel’s partner Ethan Katz joined in the residency for the first half and they both worked super hard and generously in the studio and in the garden, tending to so many things with love and care. We rebuilt our rocket kiln, fired it, went to the beach, spread mulch, took care of the garden, ate the garden, made so many pots, loaded and fired the double decker wood kiln, went to the beach again, and so much more!! So grateful to hang and work and play and learn with buds!! 🌞 Mel says about their work, I’m an artist who works in relationship with the land, making vessels using clay from my backyard in Burnsville, North Carolina. I came to North Carolina as a gardener and became curious about making more than a garden from the clay beneath my feet—I wanted to understand other ancient ways of putting my hands in the soil, and that curiosity led me to pots.  The clay I use to make pots is the same clay from which I grow my garden. Harvesting materials from my backyard keeps my practice closely tied to the land and the small ecosystem I’m trying to support through ecological gardening. Working this way is carbon-conscious and resilient, relying less on commercial mining, industrial processing, and long-distance transport. Alongside local clay, I incorporate nearby materials such as kaolin, feldspar, and ash from invasive grasses or community wood stoves, allowing place to speak through my work.” by @ceramicsschool
Hi all! Our resident artist @adehledaley is just finishing up a suuuuuuuper prolific two week residency here and we’d love for you to come check out what she’s made this Thursday at 8pm! Beat the heat! Adehle went off in the studio, and all the cookies are in the oven, unload Thursday morn! 🌞 It’s hot as hell out but we’re gunna “chill” in the yard with some grilling, dips in the pool and shady areas… Come out to see what Adehle has been up to and wish her farewell before she returns to our near and dear Chicago! 🐌 We’re gunna miss you Adehle!!! what a treat to get to hang and play and work with you!! Inspired by you! 🐝 Adehle Daley is a painter and ceramicist based in Chicago, Illinois. Her paintings and ceramics consider imagery and icons that reveal the artist’s esoteric, worldly, and cerebral perceptions. Through her paintings and ceramics, she captures fleeting moments of personhood, reflecting on the delicate interplay between freedom and subjugation. Horses and butterflies emerge as recurring symbols—paradoxes of power, fragility, and transformation. The horse reflects humanity, grounded and burdened, while the butterfly is ethereal, a portal to dreams, wishes, and ephemeral beauty. If the butterfly is god in her work, then the horse is a reflection of man. This poetic iconography weaves through her art, creating a visual dialogue that invites viewers into psychological and spiritual contemplation. by @ceramicsschool

One moment in time... We are just now coming to, and verging onto a path towards “reality” after the sweet fever dream of NCECA in Detroit… It was truly a gift to show so many ceramic sweet hearts from far and wide our little studio and to share in the love of our wild and beautiful city. We were so supported and held by our friends, making sure we met our basic needs in the weeks leading up to it all, and collectively checking off the long list of tasks to make the vision a fruition. We felt honored to play and dream with new and old friends from far and wide during the wood firing, the Alfred alumni party, the Trophy Life award ceremony and all the in-betweens. Thank you all for coming out and supporting us and being part of livin this dream, we hope you had so much fun, we sure did!! The shout outs are truly too many to list. THANK YOU to all who helped out, from the deepest, pinkest depths of our hearts, we overflow with love and admiration for our community. <3 v Film photos by @drew__werd by @ceramicsschool

This is a thank you letter / musical slideshow dedicated to all the lovely people who helped in so many ways to build and fire our new double decker kiln here @ceramicsschool . Thank you all so much. I love you all so much! Putting this together had me in tears! I’d try to give all the thank yous and tell the much abbreviated version of the story here, but I’m tired of feeling mandated to surface level engagement, and those of you who know me know that brevity has never been my specialty, so I’ve taken a hint from my 21-year-old more internet-satisfied self and gone back to the long form! So, if by chance you desire 12 pages of unedited explanation and many more images that you may observe at your own pace and without my questionable though certainly impassioned keyboard accompaniment, then please visit my website and enjoy 🌀MY NEW BLOG🌀 Also, Fire melts ICE! ❤️‍🔥, -Henry JHC by @ceramicsschool

We had such an awesome time with our resident artist Olivia Gibb @black_kandy back in November! We saw Olivia’s work out in the wild a while back and hoped she’d want to come do a residency with us one day, lucky us! We had an awesome few weeks hanging out making stuff, workin on building the wood kiln, firing up the rocket kiln and having fun!! So fortunate to know this wonderful weirdo. <3 Love ya! 👹 A little ditty about Olivia: “She likes making art cause it feels like flying!! Vehicles for this journey take shape in clay, music, paintings and performance. The undercurrent of her work exists in tandem with her relationship with punk music and the DIY (Do It Yourself) community. She currently lives in Philadelphia.” by @ceramicsschool
