POSTS STORIES REELS

Dear @nobusiness100,

I chose your race for my first go at a 100 mile distance for three very specific reasons: it’s one big loop, it’s in my home state; not too far from home, and it takes place during my birthday month.

Little did I know, that signing up for this race would be the beginning of this huge cascade of events that would lead to so many new friendships and amazing adventures.

Shortly after signing up, @runwithtara announced that she was accepting applications from women nationwide that had dreams of crossing their first 100 mile finish line. She was searching for 10 women to take under her wing to coach and help them achieve this. And by some miraculous event, she chose me to be one of these lucky women.

Being a part of this group I have not only learned from an amazing woman/coach/professional ultrarunner and tapped into things within myself that were just lying there dormant and waiting but I have also met, shared stories/experiences, and bonded with 9 other amazing women. These will not be short lived relationships.. we will always be in contact, always be cheering for one another, and who knows hopefully sharing some miles together on a trail one day soon.

NB, you were everything I dreamed of and MORE! This course gives alllll the scenic glory. Between the magnificent rock formations, arches, caves, mud so thick it ate my shoe, numerous roped water crossings, that one roped boulder scramble 😵‍💫, the TOP NOTCH aid stations, INCREDIBLE volunteers, the runnable sections, annnnd the not so runnable technical sections, it is easy to see why this race is so sought out. Having this place be the scene for my first 100 mile attempt and my first 100 mile finish is not something I will ever forget nor take for granted. I am blessed and truly forever grateful.

Also, huge shoutout to @nickmorganphotos and @misty.dawns for being out there with us and capturing all these incredible shots. Thank you!!

I can’t wait to come back next year for my double!

First 100 mile attempt
First 100 mile buckle

I have spent the last 48 hrs trying my best to soak it all in and commit everything that happened this weekend to memory. I took time this afternoon sitting in the sunshine, writing down everything I could from the very beginning all the way through to the very end of my first 100 mile journey.

@nobusiness100 truly was an absolutely amazing experience. This course takes you through some of the most scenic and rugged trails in TN and parts of KY. Going this direction, the first half makes you think it just might be almost all runnable but then you get to that back half and all bets are off!

I learned SO much about myself out there. I hit all the highs AND lows. I also learned that no matter how cold and dark the night is, the sun AND temperature will rise again, SO PACK EXTRA SHORTS OR HAVE A DROP BAG TOWARDS THE END 🥵!!

If you thumb through these pictures you’ll see so much love and so much support from people that I am so fortunate to call mine. My husband, my friends, my tribe of strong women that helped pace me and push me through the depths of what this distance demands to get to that finish line. @emergestrong @bwolfe3196 @jwolfe9631 @kashelton11 @mi88y81 @fawnfrkntastic For all of you, I am eternally grateful.

To the ones who are not pictured but who were definitely there with me. @catestephens Thank you for always having the words that my brain needs and for the delicious snacky snacks. And to my coach @runwithtara and our group of amazing women @10to100allwomencanultra. We haven’t all met in person but we have learned together, shared stories, experiences, and have helped push one another to our common goal of running our first 100 miler. All of these women are simply amazing and I will cherish this experience with them for forever.

And also, huge shoutout to members of my @nobody_cares_run_faster_eca team. Some of yall were out there putting in the work with me while the rest of yall were crewing, volunteering and doing anything and everything to help where you could. Thank you for all the love, support, HUGS, and endless encouragement.

He knows just where to take me for my bday 😍 Plus I had to get some last minute gear and other fun stuff for @nobusiness100 next week! There’s no better way to celebrate entering the last year of my 30’s than by running a 100 miles through the woods! 😬🥳 by @charlcie_norris

When you do two loops on a very demanding trail and this is what’s waiting for you at the end, you stop dead in your tracks and thank the Lord above for all his blessings. Especially for all the ones that allow you to just be out here witnessing all his handy work 💜 by @charlcie_norris

Training camp weekend was a success!! Started out with some glorious hot miles out near Sugarloaf with 20 miles on the forest road. @bwolfe3196 joined me for golden hour and we got to catch up on all things life 💜 Then Saturday I took it down to Fort Mountain in North Georgia for 18ish miles. The Gahuti trail will MAKE YOU WORK! Did 2 loops + a little extra. Becca and @emergestrong joined me for the second loop which definitely helped. We shared lots of laughs and enjoyed some solid time on the mountain. And then today I wrapped it all up on my home trails in the Ocoee with some clear creek/clemmer action. All the climbing is in the first 5 miles. And they are filled with all the briars, spiderwebs, roots, and big rocks. It was a great choice for the last day of camp as I really had to focus on patience and placement. And throughout the weekend I REALLY focused on fuel per coach @runwithtara 😉 and I could really tell a difference! I felt so much better and recovered so much quicker between efforts. A year ago, a weekend like this with a little over 55 miles and 10,000 ft of climbing would have put me in the dirt. I can feel AND see an amazing difference and I couldn’t be happier. @nobusiness100 is 1 month away and I’m honestly starting to feel like a kid at Christmas!!! Still some work to do but I am pumped!! I was getting my socks on, getting ready to go out for another run today when my sweet boy came over and put one of his babies on top of my shoes, quietly asking if he could go. I froze and almost teared up… we found out last week that the “weird thing” on his leg was in fact a high grade cancerous tumor. He is all healed up from surgery and is still a ball of energy so I said “okay buddy, let’s go”. He used to do long runs with me all the time but I just took him for the first mile today and he was so excited that he carried his baby in his mouth the whole time. We are hoping to have him with us for a while yet but obviously we can’t predict the future. We have had so many amazing adventures in the mountains and on the trails. I’m thinking about creating a page for him to put all of our adventures on for safe keeping…. been going through 8, almost 9 years of pics and videos 🥹, so stay tuned and give your fur babies extra lovings bc you just never know ☺️💙🐾 by @charlcie_norris

Full transparency…

Your girl here is on the struggle bus. I have been fighting a virus all week. Trying to push through that, work my shifts at the hospital, and keep up with the training has me pretty tired. And then on top of that, all this with our boy Mick has me emotionally tired. So when it was time to drag myself outside today and do a 2.5 hr run, I wasn’t sure how that was gonna look or if it would even happen. So, that being said, I drank a good cup of coffee, put on my “stay sturdy” shirt, and slapped a smile on my face and went to work and I’m so glad I did.

After the first hour I could almost literally feel the weight of it all lifting just a little bit. I enjoyed the sunshine, I prayed, and just kept putting one foot in front of the other.

This is how running teaches you life lessons on the daily. You’re gonna hit a wall sometimes, you’re gonna be stressed, and life will throw you curveballs.. but just keep putting one foot in front of the other. I promise it will ease up … I’m not looking for any sympathy comments or anything like that.. just wanted to share in case you’re going through a rough patch too. And if you need someone to talk that out with, just holler💜 by @charlcie_norris

Well, through what started out as day dreaming over a truck on market place and sending that post to our buddy @niwalker42 at @toyota.of.cleveland to see what he thought of it, we ended up at the dealership over the weekend and adding this absolute beauty to the family! Getting a new truck was not on our radar for anytime soon but this Tundra literally checks off everything on our wishlist and our buddy Nate knew it and got us an incredible deal on it! The amazing team up there also gifted us with this sweet new Eclipse Toyota TRD chair. They said I just had to have it for all my ultra races! It has a cooler and even has backpack straps so Slade can easily carry it between aid stations 🤣 Nate, Tyler and everybody up there @toyota.of.cleveland , thank yall so much! by @charlcie_norris
