Reverence - @smokesessionsrecords. Good reviews coming out, and lots of positive feedback. Never know how things will turn when you're in the heat of it.... A musician today that received his copy wrote on FB: "And Charles himself has gone beyond alto licks or even common vocabulary except as a base---he's evolved into a kind of non-verbal communication---a pure expression.. And we hear the audience responding in kind, whether it's to an original or a tender ballad like Old Folks. Jazz for those who have lived and can feel---recommended" We all try for "pure expression" I'm always learning/trying.... #reverence #charlesmcphersonquintet #terellstafford #davidwongbass #jebpatton #billydrummonddrums #nyjazz #newrecording #jazz #jazzrecording #grateful by @charlesmcpherson1

WHEN 2 GENIUSES MET! 🎷 What’s going on, y’all?! Man, Charles McPherson shares an incredible story about the great John Coltrane visiting Barry Harris at his home in Detroit! Charles remembers Trane pulling up a chair beside Barry at the piano and asking what he was working on. What follows is a fascinating conversation about bebop, harmony, and the musical ideas these giants were exploring. We also talk about Barry’s incredible influence as a teacher and mentor. As someone who had the opportunity to study with Barry myself, I can tell you his teaching changed so much for me musically! And this is just a taste of what’s coming! 🔥 THE FULL CHARLES McPHERSON INTERVIEW DROPS THIS SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1, AT 12 PM ET! And for my NYC folks, Charles will be performing at SMOKE Jazz Club November 4–8! 🎟️ https://smokejazz.com/ Follow @smokejazzclub Watch and subscribe to To Be or Not To Bop on YouTube! We just voted in our kitchen after reading a lot of info, articles, endorsements, etc... CA makes this so easy. Dropbox tomorrow at the library--- not mailing it. Polls are looking good, but that doesn't matter. VOTE everyone! Vote for your children, grandchildren, the health of the earth, to stop genocides, justice and fairness, no more ICE, corruption at the highest levels, Medicare for all--no insurance tycoons, stop white nationalism, support the arts, science, education--not killing anywhere. A friend of ours passed a few weeks ago. A regret: "I wanted to see this (trump) over before I leave." Don't we all. VOTE. And don't tell me to play my horn and stay out of politics. I've been watching this show since the 60s, Mingus, and all of our better leaders. I'm playing life. Vote. Many blessings to us all. by @charlesmcpherson1

It was great to catch up with @samarajoysings at her Milwaukee concert last Sunday! Her artistry is only getting deeper and deeper - what a joy to hear her and her great band (including @hollisticmusicworks artist @jasoncharos). After working with Samara on her Grammy winning “Portrait”, her collab with myself and @charlesmcpherson1 (“The Joy Of Love”, Best Jazz Performance), along with the Torch Bearers album (Brian Lynch featuring Charles McPherson, Best Jazz Album) are presented in the “For Your Consideration” round of the 69th Grammy Awards. Voters, pls consider! Everyone, pls dig! Link to listen in bio. by @charlesmcpherson1
