![In December 2025, The Intermission: A W*ack & Punk Showdown teamed up with DNOTS, and a choreographic competition was born with a SolarPunk Theme. Through an application process, we chose 5 choreographers to compete, and invited another 3 [Capsules], to present work.
The Intermission: A W*ack & Punk Showdown is a space to sharpen your choreographic and performance skills while contributing to the evolution of waacking. Rooted in intergenerational exchange, the focus is on preserving the dance’s integrity while pushing creative boundaries. We strip back the technical stuff to focus on raw expression, storytelling, and individuality, space to experiment, take risks, and be seen.
The Dream was to bring Waacking back at the forefront of a performance night, as opposed to having it only in dance competitions or part of dance festivals. Nubian Néné @nubiannene wanted to create a space made by Waackers for Waackers in order to maintain the essence of the dance; the element of performance, the taking of space, and the affirmation of a stance.
Theme curated by j. bouey SolarPunk is "a movement in speculative fiction, art, fashion, and activism that seeks to answer and embody the question, ''what does a sustainable civilization look like, and how can we get there?” (Springett, 2017).
DNOTS: is Midheaven Network’s annual Solstice Festival of art, music and crucial conversations to explore and understand the shadow, where all possibility (including rebirth) originates.
Capsules serve as intermission to The Intermission. They are shorter than the featured performances. This edition was curated by j. bouey, Essence, and Punk Something @punksomethingnyc
In this clip, our second invited Capsule choreographer is Aché @che.rapture featuring Even @evengungun as co-choreographer in this electrifying duo!!
