🟣 #HouseOfX2 * CGC 9.8 🟣 WP 🟣 10/2019 🟣 Incentive Virgin Variant (1:100) ⊗ "The Uncanny Life of Moira McTaggart" Hard to believe this book is 7 years old. #1stAppearanceFriday brings out the good stuff. Based on all the reading of X-MEN over the years none of us could have imagined what Hickman brewed up with this epic title. The utter shock from the revelation left me completely agape and shockified! I bet most of you felt the same as what we knew of the past became knowing nothing at all. ⊗ HOX 2 reveals that longtime ally Moira MacTaggert is actually a mutant with the power of reincarnation, retaining all memories of her previous lives upon death. The issue details her first nine lives as she repeatedly attempts—and fails—to prevent humanity from exterminating mutantkind, driving her to team up with Charles Xavier and Magneto in her tenth life to establish Krakoa. Years later, a bunch of us are starved for what this run gave us. And begs the question "why didn't they let Hickman complete what was such an intriguing vision?" Either way, this era revived an evaporating super group in a highly creative way. Cheers all! ⊗ Jonathan Hickman (writer) Pepe Larraz (penciller/inker/cover artist) Marte Gracia (colorist) VC's Clayton Cowles (letterer) Tom Muller (designer) Jordan White (editor) #MoiraX #XMEN Krakoa by @chetteyeknight
⚛️#AstonishingXMEN6 ⚛️CGC SS 9.4 WP⚛️12/2004⚛️ And here I present to you.... the hard wood backdrop...😁‼️ Little behind schedule on ##FirstAppearanceFriday but it's a good one on #SlabSaturday. ⊗ "Gifted" ⊗ Special Agent Abigail Brand makes her first full appearance, which also features the first mention of her organization, S.W.O.R.D. Brand reveals Ord's motive: a prophecy states an X-Man will destroy his home world, Breakworld. This issue reveals Colossus never actually died from the Legacy Virus. Ord resurrected him and kept him hidden underground as a secret test subject. The X-Men rescue him, and he joins the team to defeat Ord. Beast decides against taking the mutant cure, while Emma Frost is secretly revealed to be working toward a sinister hidden agenda. If you haven't read this title, highly suggested! ⚛️ #TheXMEN24 *CGC WP * 09/1966 "The Plague of the Locust" ⊗ #MutantMonday early entry from yesteryear! Original crew action! 1st appearance of the Locust (Dr. August Hopper), a mad scientist who uses an ionic ray to grow giant insects and threaten the food supply so he can "save" humanity for fame. Meanwhile, Jean Grey leaves Xavier’s mansion to attend Metro College, where she suspects Hopper and alerts the team, allowing Marvel Girl and Professor X to neutralize his insect control device and force his surrender.  ⊗ Writer: Roy Thomas Penciler: Werner Roth Inker: Dick Ayers Letterer: Sam Rosen Editor: Stan Lee #SilverAgeKey #MarvelComics #CGCJunkie by @chetteyeknight
#HouseOfX1 and #PowersOfX1 * CGC SS 9.8/WP * Brooks Virgin Editions * 09/2019 ⚛️ (HOX/POX) are interconnected 2019 miniseries that revolutionized Marvel’s mutant franchise. The story reveals that Moira MacTaggert is actually a mutant with the power of reincarnation, using her knowledge of past lives to help Professor X and Magneto build a sovereign mutant nation on the living island of Krakoa. ⚛️ Powers of X #1 debuted major future-timeline characters: the mutant chimeras Rasputin IV and Cardinal, alongside Cylobel, Percival, The Librarian, and Nimrod the Lesser/Greater. ⚛️ Before this title was created, we suffered through a boring and rather flat set of X-MEN tales. Reading this was so much of a refreshing eye opener. I know most of you feel like I do about it being shelved seeing that we may have arrived back at mediocrity for mutant writing. Either way, glad to have had the good change up thrown at us when it happened. I remember when I first saw these 2 books I had to have them. Getting them signed was priority! Cheers! ⊗ #TheXMen64 ⚛️ CGC 8.5 * OW/W ⚛️ 01 / 1970 "When Sunfire Strikes!" ⊗ #Sunfire (Shiro Yoshida) makes his first appearance and attacks the U.S., leading to a clash with the X-Men. After his father is revealed as a pawn in a mutant conspiracy, Sunfire kills the villainous Dragon-Lord and flies back to Japan in disgrace. He always knew how to make an entrance.... and an exit. Still a good read, still a great character! #MutantMonday comin' in HOT!! 👁👁 Did a little experimentation with my phone and ran this cover through the A.I. generator. #XMenAndTheMicronauts1 * CGC SS WP * 01/1984 Late night #SlabSaturday (morn) because ya know I missed Friday night! 🤫 ⊗ "First Encounter" features a rare alliance between the heroic #Micronauts and their nemesis, Baron Karza, to battle a planet-destroying "Entity." Karza tracks the Entity’s psychic signature to Professor Xavier at the X-Mansion, leading to a clash where Kitty Pryde attempts to phase through Karza, resulting in a mind-swap between the two. This is book one of 4. Micronauts were toys before comic appearances. They became an interesting read once they got to comics. Very engaging and different, which is always a great formula for the unknown! It worked well in this instance! Pairing the strangest with the smallest became a workable thing! 🔬 Writers: Chris Claremont and Bill Mantlo Penciler: Butch (Jackson) Guice Inkers: Bob Wiacek (with Rick Bryant and Kathy Orlando) Colorist: Bob Sharen Letterer: Michael Higgins Editor: Bob Budiansky *Signed by Stan Lee* 🔬 #️⃣#️⃣ Commander Arcturus Rann, Marionette (Mari), Bug, Acroyear, Huntarr, Fireflyte, Bioship ⊗ Storm, Wolverine, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Ariel (Kitty Pryde), Professor X ⊗ New Mutants Cannonball, Sunspot, Wolfsbane, Danielle Moonstar, Illyana Rasputina (Magik) XMEN Lockheed ... that's all I got! ‼️ by @chetteyeknight
⊗ #TheXMEN28 * CGC SS OW/W * 01/1967 ⊗ 🔊 #Banshee is introduced as a villain under the mental control of a mysterious organization called Factor Three. Professor X and the original X-Men track a series of sonic disturbances to a small town, leading to a high-stakes confrontation. During the battle, the team discovers the Banshee's sonic scream is powerful enough to rival their own abilities. By the story's end, the X-Men help break his brainwashing, setting the stage for his eventual transition into a beloved hero. Welcome to #WailingWednesday (So dubbed by @Comixkings)‼️ 🚨 Writer/Script: Roy Thomas Penciler: Werner Roth (credited as Jay Gavin) Inker: Dick Ayers Letterer: Artie Simek Editor: Stan Lee Always a big Banshee fan, his overall importance to the team when they changed was immeasurable. By acting as a mentor and moral compass, Banshee helped transform a group of "strangers" into a cohesive superhero family. Not to mention being a "put my life on the line", team first hero! 🚨 ⊗ This copy was an 8.5. It'll be 60 years old in January. Treasure in my definition! #Avengers174 * CGC Signature Series 9.8*WP * 7/1978 🅰️ "Captives of the #Collector!" ✨️ The team faces the Collector, who has been kidnapping heroes to "protect" them from a future cosmic threat. ✨️ After the Collector subdues Iron Man, Thor, and the Wasp, Hawkeye is the only one left to fight the Elder Of The Universe, despite being a "mere mortal". S#!+ happens! The Collector reveals he was gathering the heroes to save them from Korvac (the "enemy"). Just as he is about to reveal more, the Collector encounters an even bigger problem to close this one out, and suddenly the next few issues wreak of Korvac!! 🚨 If you do not know educate yourself!! 4️⃣ #FantasticFour104 * CGC 8.5/WP *11/1970 4️⃣ #MutantMonday, why not? Propers out to bruddah @comixkings for the post encouragement! 🧲 " The Conqueror Says Die!" #Magneto takes control of the U.S. (no, it's not a new trick) by using his powers to manipulate the nation's power grid and machinery. While the #FantasticFour are weakened from a previous battle in the Inhumans' Great Refuge, they rally around stopping the Master of Magnetism. The issue concludes in a wild showdown where the team attempts to breach Magneto's force field surrounding Washington, D.C. Just the old Magneto thinking big as usual! 🅰️ #TheAvengers170 * CGC 9.8 * WP * 4/1978 🅰️ Got called out by my bro @comixkings Brandon for a twin-killing Teamup Tuesday book post on Earth's Mightiest Heroes! ✨️ "Though Hell Should Bar the Way!", is a key chapter in the Korvac Saga. I know my actual readers have experienced The Korvac Saga! 🤯 In this book, Janet and Hank Pym bring the deactivated robot bride of Ultron to Avengers Mansion, she suddenly reactivates and battles the team. Bummer!! Captain America & Iron Man order the Avengers to let her escape, hoping she will lead them directly to Ultron. Members like Quicksilver and the Two-Gun Kid begin mysteriously vanishing into thin air—later revealed as the work of The Collector. ✨️ Props to the writer, whom I've had the pleasure of meeting and admiring in person thanks to Brandon. Jim Shooter in a lot of ways throughout the Marvel Universe's history could be called Savior for his grand contributions (and resuscitations of). May he R.I.P.
