@veteranas_and_rucas x @paisaboys @nikela East Of The River release party/book signing 10/2026 As a Queer Chicana from Los Angeles who spent a majority of the ’90s visiting their Tío in East Los Angeles, I am a big supporter of @veteranas_and_rucas and @lupewhat. When I found out that she had a book coming out, I knew I had to read it.

So far, the book is very nostalgic for me. Getting to flip through collections of old flyers from house parties, and the smell of incense at the book signing, took me back to probably the happiest memories of my childhood: spending time with my cousins, going to family gatherings, and hearing “When I Hear Music” by Debbie Deb for the first time, along with what felt like a chaotic blend of Norteños, techno, and American pop at family parties.

Not realizing how lucky I was to not only experience that in the ’90s, but to be just old enough to actually remember it still.

The Sears building on Olympic Blvd. used to be a landmark for me when I was a kid, slowly drifting to sleep in the backseat while my parents drove us back to Paramount. I always knew I was almost home when I saw that green neon sign.

I look forward to reading more of East of the River. It was so nice meeting you, @lupewhat. Thank you for helping archive East LA and Latino culture for generations to look back on. Thank you for your contribution to queer/ latinx culture and for representing us proudly.

My name is Ashley Garcia and I am from Los Angeles County. I sing and write lyrics for an emo called “Begin Again”. Some of you might remember me as the lyricist and lead singer for a pop punk band that was active in the 2010s called Smalls. I never stopped making music, Ive been quietly making music under “Begin Again”. Our song I ws nvr yr grlfrnd has over 500k plays on spotify alone. Collectively between all of our streaming channels our streams are at well over 1 million. We are a completely independent project that I run. These are organic streams, we dont have a label. Just a small dedicated fanbase that has been keeping us alive for close to a decade. I am our label lol Our music has been featured in countless videos online including an online game called “Clone Hero”. I have been working on the next phase of begin again for quite sometime. Its almost here. If you knew me from the defend pop punk group on fb, if you know me from smalls, if you were an og follower that found us when we debuted at number 1 on bandcamp.com in 2015 (with no marketing campaign btw) who remembers when I dropped the demo for pop punks dead youre next. If you’re just finding out about me now in 2026. It would mean the world to me to gain your support. Please check us out. I ws nvr yr grlfrnd is available on all streaming platforms. Every like, repost, and share is free, you can stream us for free online. All of it helps us out tremendously. If you’ve been waiting for new music, im sorry for the delay. Ive been going through a lot and these songs will explain everything I cant say. - Ashley Garcia xoxo
