Happy 9th Birthday to my beautiful girls! So incredibly proud of these little mares, still continuing to teach me things everyday. They haven’t learnt patience for their birthday cake though! 🥰🎂🐴🐴 by @justmaxltd

Great week away in France and Germany. From visiting Dunkirk, Dachau, Augsburg, Metz, Munich, Neuschwanstein Castle and possibly the world’s largest tack shop. Driving on the ‘wrong’ side of the road, navigating the autobahns and adventuring with @justmaxltd 🇫🇷🇩🇪🏰🚙 by @justmaxltd

🧶🐑 Farm to Fabric Week 3 🐑🧶
Today we started learning how to spin wool, one of the things I was most looking forward to, but also possibly the most difficult. We used the Drop Whorl Spindle, a few people tried out the Turkish Drop Spindle which has the 4 wooden bars and a lower weight. To get started we use a leader piece of yarn which is tied around the shaft and fed through the hook. We take a rolag and learned to pinch and draft this onto the leader yarn, whilst spinning the drop spindle, which pulls the fibres and twists them to create a single ply yarn! It’s important to keep spinning in the same direction so it doesn’t unravel. Then as it gets longer the yarn is wrapped around the shaft for taking off with a niddy noddy next time. Thank you to Claire from @inspiringyarns for the tutorial @glenside_farm by @justmaxltd

Merry Christmas folks 🎄 We’ve all been quite sick recently so no new Christmas photo this year but thought it was the perfect time for a few outtakes from years past! 😅
These ponies adore each other but trying to get them to stand for a photo is quite the challenge 🎅🏻🐴🐴 by @justmaxltd

🧶🐑 Farm to Fabric Week 2 🐑🧶 Now our freshly washed fleeces were dried, it’s time to prepare the fibres. First we open up the fleece, by pulling it apart with your hands or you can use this scary looking tool called a swing picker, full of very sharp nails! Then we used hand carders to smooth and align the hairs and created rolags (a roll of fibre). We also learnt some more modern ways to do this on both a manual drum carder which is hand cranked and an electric drum carder - these create batts (thick sheets of wool). These rolags and batts are now ready for spinning or some of the other projects we’ll be getting up to! @glenside_farm by @justmaxltd

🧶🐑 Farm to Fabric Week 1 🐑🧶 Today was my first day on a year long project learning about the processing of sheep fleece to make wool and material! The first step is removing any heavily soiled pieces and debris. Then it is soaked in hot water and soap for 30 mins and left to sit. It is then rung out and repeated a further 2-3 times but with cold water. Then it is placed flat to air dry for a few weeks ready for our next session! @glenside_farm by @justmaxltd

Possibly one of the most challenging things I’ve ever made. On and off it’s taken me 4 years to crochet this blanket, but I think it was worth it! This is the Scheepjes d’Histoire Naturelle CAL. The pattern is inspired by the book ‘All the Light We Cannot See’ by Anthony Doerr, which is also now made into a show on Netflix. It is about a blind girl in France during WWII, who’s father is the master locksmith at the Museum of Natural History in Paris. The different rounds of the blanket explores the gardens, insects, jewels, geodes, animals and fossils that she explores at the museum 🌿🌸🦋🐝💎🐘🐚 by @justmaxltd
