Legal Grounds, our home and community event space, suffered a fire on Thursday, June 19. Luckily all members of staff and residents are safe and uninjured, and the main structure of the building is fine. However, negotiations with insurance are underway and we do appear to be underinsured. We should have enough to do the bulk of the work, mainly reframing the back of building, remodeling all three bathrooms and new flooring/carpeting throughout the building. We humbly ask anyone who’s enjoyed our space in the past 20 years to help donate to our fund so that we may rebuild faster and continue to serve the community! Current goal is to reopen by January 2026! Link to donate is in bio. by @chris_escu
2024 was a great year for me. Honored to receive my purple belt from absolute icons of the sport, the Miyao Bros. Still completely blown away I get to train with these legends everyday, I feel a little spoiled sometimes haha. Made great progress with the business, wrote some nice original songs with the band(ep coming soon). But this year I wanted to actually make more of an effort in documenting my effort. 2025 is going to be a big year for me and the business, a year of content creation and exposure. Thank you everyone in my life who supports me, from my friends and training partners who make my mind and body better, all the local musicians who make this space better, and all the customers who support me and make my dreams possible. No excuses this year. @paulomiyao @joaomiyao @sierrajiujitsu @studio.1908 by @chris_escu
Here’s my loop for today. I look tired because I was having trouble syncing the audio properly and I just did some Muay Thai. Still in the early learning process for video editing but these will get a lot better as my skills improve #originalmusic #loop #guitarist #bass #vibe #bedroompop #indiemusic by @chris_escu

Legal, formally known as Legal Coffee Grounds has officially reopened after suffering a fire last year. @legalgroundsjc The father-son duo credit the community for supporting and “saving” them after experiencing the world stopping incident last May which affected their business / livelihood. “Just the outpouring of support, everyone wanting us to be back just really gave us all the motivation we needed to just put everything back into this place and get back open again,” said Christian Escudero. The cafe continues to serve customer favorites like breakfast foods and lunch, plus smoothies, protein shakes and coffee. Check out the cafe located on 170 Grand Street in Jersey City. #supportlocal ——— ✍🏼: @adrienne.jro 📹: @itsneidy @adrienne.jro 👉🏼 Visit https://www.sliceofculture.com for our previous stories on culture, news, sports and more! by @chris_escu
