If you’re planning a trip to Jordan… don’t skip this 🤩 And if you’re new here, hi 👋🏼 we’re Chris and Flo! We share bucket list spots, practical travel tips and the BTS along the way, so hit follow if you’re into that 🗺️🐪 This is📍Wadi Rum, Jordan’s otherworldly desert. This stunning UNESCO Heritage protected area of red sand and towering sandstone mountains is incredibly remote and massive 🏜️ And yes, if it looks familiar, that’s because it was used as Arrakis in Dune and Mars in The Martian 🎬 Sorry to disappoint, but there’s no giant spice harvesters or space stations waiting out there… just jaw-dropping canyons, natural stone arches, and Bedouin camps that are still pretty incredible if you ask us! 📍 Why it’s so special A historic desert landscape that contains thousands of rock carvings (petroglyphs) and inscriptions from early human inhabitants. 🦂And the desert views? Unreal. Endless red dunes, massive rock formations, and a blanket of stars in every direction 🌌 📍 Know before you go 🎟️ You’ll need to pay a small entry fee at the Visitor Center (free if you have the Jordan Pass!) ⏰ Most tours and camp pickups happen around a specific time, so don’t be late or you’ll miss your ride into the desert 👉🏼 Don’t miss your chance to take sand board down giant sand dunes. 🥾 Dress in layers… it’s scorching hot during the day, but once that sun goes down, the temperature drops fast 🥶 📍 Pro tip: Stay 1-2 nights in a desert camp if you can. Fewer crowds, endless traditional food, more exploring, and easily one of the best star-gazing experiences we’ve ever had 🌅 💬 COMMENT “DUNE” and we’ll send you our Jordan resources (including a free itinerary) Have you seen it in real life… or just on screen? 👀 #dune #wadirum #bucketlistdestination by @chrisnflo
❗️Explore ALL of Petra The 800-step climb up to Ad Deir (The Monastery) is no joke, but the reward is completely unforgettable. Most people think Petra is just the iconic treasury building but it’s so much more! Comment “Guide” below and we’ll send you our Jordan resources to help you plan your own adventure! 👇✈️ The Monastery is one of those sights that proves you need to explore all of Petra, it’s so interesting! 🏛️ It’s Bigger Than You Think: Pictures don’t do it justice. The Monastery is actually significantly wider and taller than the famous Treasury, measuring about 160 feet wide and 148 feet tall! 🏗️ It was built by the Nabataean people, with sources dating its construction to various periods between the 3rd century BCE and the 1st century CE ✝️ During the Byzantine era, the city of Petra was converted to Christianity, and Ad-Deir was Christianized. It likely got it’s western name due to this change which is further supported by the carved crosses within. 🎟️ Get The Jordan Pass: Before you even arrive in the country, make sure to purchase the Jordan Pass online. It waives your tourist visa fee and includes your entry ticket to Petra, saving you time and money. ☕️ Take Your Time: There are plenty of Bedouin tea tents dotted along the route. Stop, grab some sweet mint tea, catch your breath, and enjoy the incredible canyon views on your way up. #petrajordan #bucketlisttravel #worldtravels by @chrisnflo

👇TIPS FOR VISITING ⭐️ SAVE THIS FOR YOUR TRIP 🎟️ The 2-Day Jordan Pass Hack: Buy the “Jordan Explorer” Pass before you arrive in the country. It waives your Jordan visa fee entirely and includes two consecutive days of Petra entry. Splitting Petra into two days makes it much more manageable to explore everything. 📸 Time Your Lighting: The Treasury: Arrive right at 6:00 AM for an empty plaza, or between 9:00–11:00 AM for direct sunlight hitting the rock. The Monastery: It faces west. Hit it in the late afternoon (3:00–4:00 PM) for the best golden-hour glow. ☀️ The sun here is no joke, bring ample water, a snack, and wear sun protective layers. 🧗 The Overhead Viewpoint: For the iconic top-down shot of the Treasury, take the Al-Khubtha trail or the stairs carved to the left. 🕯️ Petra by Night: Seeing the Treasury illuminated by 1,500 candles is incredible, but it requires planning. It only runs on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Pro tip: The Jordan Pass does not cover this event. You must buy a separate 17 JD ticket at the Visitor Center, so grab it early in the day. 📌 The ‘Back Door’ Route: Consider starting at Little Petra and taking the 4x4 shuttle to the Monastery first. You’ll work your way down through the ancient city to the Treasury, saving yourself from climbing 850 uphill stairs. 👇 Want to skip the planning? Comment PETRA and we’ll send you the links to the excellent private tours and Jordan resources. 🏜️ Follow our page for helpful travel advice around the globe 🌎 @visitjordan #petrajordan #worldwonders #bucketlistdestination by @chrisnflo
Side quests > Little Petra (Siq al-Barid) is the ultimate crowd-free side quest. Included right in your Jordan Pass, it gives you an intimate look at incredible Nabataean rock-cut architecture without fighting for personal space. A few extra tips for your visit: 💡 Fun Fact: This area was basically an ancient “suburb” designed to house visiting caravans and traders so the main holy city of Petra wouldn’t get overcrowded. 🥾 Pro Tip: If you’re feeling adventurous, you can actually hike from Little Petra directly to the famous Monastery in the main park (known as the “Back Door” hike). 🗓️ Itinerary Planning: To truly experience everything without rushing, we highly recommend dedicating a full 10 days and 9 nights to your journey through the country so you can take your time at spots like this. Comment “secret” below and we’ll send you our complete Jordan travel resources! 🇯🇴✨ @visitjordan #petrajordan #bucketlisttravel #jordantravel by @chrisnflo
‼️ YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS BEFORE VISITING JORDAN 🎫 Tourist passes in some countries aren’t much of a deal, they charge you a lot and then you likely don’t go to every site, meaning it would of been cheaper to buy admission a la carte. 🙅‍♀️NOT IN JORDAN! 📍 Here the pass makes total sense. Even if you just go to the main sites that you came to Jordan to see, like Petra, it pays itself off. ✨ Then any additional sites you have time for are bonus! 🛬It also waives your visa costs coming into the country and expeditions your immigration process upon arrival. ❤️ SAVE THIS for your trip and follow for more helpful world travel advice @visitjordan #jordanpass #jordantravel by @chrisnflo
Skip the tour bus in Jordan? 🇯🇴🚙 Here’s the truth about driving yourself... While navigating the chaotic streets of Amman is not for the faint of heart, getting out on the open road is the ultimate way to experience the Dead Sea, Petra, and Wadi Rum entirely at your own pace. But there’s a little more to a Jordanian road trip than just picking up the keys. If you are heading out of the city, here is what you need to expect: 🛂 Routine Checkpoints: You will encounter military and police checkpoints along the major highways. Don’t stress, they are completely standard and the officers are incredibly welcoming. Just roll down your window, smile, and have your passport, driving permit, and rental agreement handy. 🛑 Surprise Speed Bumps: Keep a sharp eye out. The desert highways are generally smooth and well-maintained, but large, sometimes unmarked speed bumps can pop up out of nowhere. Whether you want to take the wheel or let someone else do the navigating, we’ve got you covered: 👇 Comment CALL and I’ll send you a link to book a 1-on-1 Travel Talk so we can make sure you’re totally prepped for a DIY road trip. 👇 Comment TOURS and we’ll send our curated list of the absolute best guided experiences directly to your DMs. Make sure to hit follow for the next part of our Jordan series! ✨ #traveltipsandtricks #rentalcars #travelwithus by @chrisnflo
