Excited to announce that I will be attending the PTACC Africa Deflection Summit on 5–6 November 2026 at the Corridor Spring Hotel, Arusha.
Two days of conversations on strengthening multi-stakeholder collaboration for public health and safety. Looking forward to learning, connecting, and bringing these ideas back to our communities. 🌍

Kilimanjaro, Meru, and the flat Siha plains all trace back to the East African Rift, a zone where the crust is being pulled apart. As the crust stretched and faulted, blocks dropped down, leaving a low floor, and Siha sits on that floor. Magma rose through the cracks along the rift edges and built the mountains: Meru is the older volcano and has partly collapsed, while Kilimanjaro is younger, formed from three overlapping cones (Shira, Mawenzi, and Kibo) mostly within the last million years. Over time, volcanic ash, lava flows, and mudflows washed down from these slopes and buried the uneven rift floor in successive layers, gradually leveling it into the broad plain seen today. Exact ages and the order of events vary between studies, so for formal work, the Tanzania Geological Survey is the best reference.

Young people are not just the future of tourism. They are the energy, creativity, and driving force shaping its future today.

We had a privilege and an opportunity to have been invited to attend the youths dialogue and conference organised by the Arusha Regiona Commisioners office as part of the World Tourism Day celebrations. The dialogue brought together over 200 youths and tourism industry practitioners and experts to discuss the opportunities available in the tourism sector towards AFCON 2027 with the theme "From Tourism to Opportunities."

Tourism is more than just travelling to new places, exploring and enjoying destinations. It is a pathway to jobs, entrepreneurship, innovation, investment, cultural exchange, and sustainable development.

As AFCON comes to Tanzania and East Africa, we must look beyond the game. AFCON is more than just football. It is a gateway to tourism, business, investment, hospitality, cultural exchange, and countless opportunities for young people.

We believe that when we meaningfully engage and empower youth in tourism, we are not simply creating opportunities for today. We are building a stronger, more inclusive, and sustainable industry for tomorrow.

Much Appreciation to the Arusha Regional Commissioner's Office for organising this impactful and productive session. Thanks to Tanzania Tourist Board Northern Zone for creating more learning and engaging platforms for youths in tourism. by @chrstianvallency

Recently, I joined youth from across Arusha, including students pursuing careers in tourism, to celebrate World Tourism Day.
The event was graced by the District Commissioner, who represented the Regional Commissioner as guest of honor. It brought together students and tourism stakeholders to explore the opportunities AFCON 2027 will open up for young people in Arusha.
With Tanzania set to co-host AFCON 2027, the tourism sector is preparing for a surge in visitors. Young people must be ready to take part, from hospitality and guiding to event services and sustainable tourism.
As someone working at the intersection of conservation and youth engagement, I believe tourism growth must go hand in hand with protecting the natural heritage that draws people to Tanzania in the first place.
Thank you to the organizers and everyone who made the conversation possible. 🌍

"Bibi na Mvua" — When the rains come, we don't face them alone.
This comic follows Bibi and her grandchild as they prepare for the coming El Niño rains — clearing drains, storing clean water, protecting important documents, planting trees, and listening for warnings. But behind every step lies one truth: preparedness is stronger when it's shared. A cleared drain protects the whole street, not just one home; a planted tree holds soil for every farm downhill; a shared warning reaches the neighbor who may not have heard it alone.
As El Niño approaches Tanzania this season, Tanzania Youth Environmental Speakers reminds every family: Umoja ni Nguvu — unity is strength. When communities prepare together, no rain finds a village unready.

After the announcement of El Niño, Tanzania is bracing for a very strong Vuli season this October–December — and preparation starts now. 🌧️
TMA has confirmed rains will intensify across the northern coast, Arusha, Manyara, Kilimanjaro, the Lake Victoria basin, and northern Kigoma, running from late September through January 2027. That means real risks: floods, landslides, damaged roads, contaminated water, and crop loss.
But the impact isn't fixed — it depends on how ready we are. Clear your drains. Store clean water and food. Know your evacuation route. Stay tuned to official TMA warnings.
Early preparation can save lives, crops, and property. Stay alert. Prepare now. Share the message. 🌱💚
