Cinema culture will SHIFT once Dune: Part III releases this winter from Denis Villenueve. by @cinelue
The first full trailer for A24’s Primetime is here—and I’ve got thoughts. Robert Pattinson completely disappears into his role as Chris Hansen, but the first thing that grabbed me was how visually unhinged this movie looks. Cinematographer David Bolen fills the trailer with blown-out windows, deep shadows, saturated colors, halation and shifting aspect ratios. It recreates the crunchy, hyper-real look of early-2000s television while still feeling distinctly cinematic. That ugliness is intentional. Director Lance Oppenheim uses surveillance cameras, harsh digital imagery and voyeuristic framing to pull us into the moral contradiction at the center of To Catch a Predator. Chris Hansen was exposing people capable of horrifying acts—but the show also transformed vigilantism, humiliation and invasions of privacy into primetime entertainment. Was it justice, exploitation or somehow both? That is a much more interesting question than a straightforward hero story, and Robert Pattinson is exactly the kind of actor who can live inside that contradiction. If the movie delivers on what this trailer promises, Primetime could be one of the most visually distinctive and ethically complicated films of the year. @lanceopp @davidbolendp @a24 @primetimemovie by @cinelue
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the best-looking live-action MCU film to date. I’d be reminded to not mention the visuals of both the Maguire and Garfield franchises, particularly The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The collection of those five films hold some of the most beautiful frames in comic book movie history. BUT, every frame of BND is gorgeous. The coloring and lighting go the extra swing compared to previous Spidey outings. by @cinelue
Studio Ghibli has an overlooked connected to The Odyssey that has me scratching my brain and redefining how I view cinema. Hayao Miyazaki, Homer, and Christopher Nolan are true geniuses. by @cinelue
The Avengers: Doomsday trailer is here, and so is INFINITYVISION. What’s InfinityVision? Disney is attempting to create their own IMAX experience without creating any new premium large format screens or auditoriums. It’s a nothing sandwich that needs some explaining. by @cinelue
THE ODYSSEY is officially here, and I have many thoughts. Truly transcendent. Love live cinema! 🎥 by @cinelue
How many times can I say, “IMAX 70mm,” in under two minutes? THE ODYSSEY is officially here, marking Christopher Nolan’s most ambitious achievement to date. I’m watching THE ODYSSEY in IMAX 70mm this Sunday. The day can’t come fast enough! Just sharing on what IMAX 70mm theaters are all about, and how rare they are. #theodyssey #christophernolan #imax #imax70mm #cinema by @cinelue
PlayStation is erasing physical media by 2028. No, this isn’t a joke. Physical video games are going the wayside in the next two years. by @cinelue
This might be the most creative biopic I’ve ever seen. Criterion just announced a new batch of films that are releasing this September, and one film in this collection that I’m so excited about. Nouvelle Vague Nouvelle Vague Nouvelle Vague In my opinion, the best movie to come out last year that if you haven’t watched and if you love cinema, you are totally missing out. It’s a biopic of the legendary film director Jean-Luc Godard and his breakthrough film Breathless, which was released in 1960 and ushered in the French New Wave era of cinema. The movie itself is the making of Breathless, but I’ve never seen a biopic making-of film presented just like this. The entire thing is black and white, written and directed by Richard Linklater, the creator of Dazed and Confused and the Before Trilogy with Ethan Hawke, perfectly transporting you into 1959 Paris, France. What’s so special about it is that the film itself is presented in a way as though they made this movie in 1959, locked it in a vault, and then released it onto Netflix in 2025. The cast is particularly made of first-time actors, but they look so much like the people they’re portraying that you wouldn’t even realize they aren’t actually the real people. It’s kind of trippy in the coolest way possible. On top of that, the cinematography, the camera techniques, the editing, even something as simple as following a car and panning left to right, all looks as though they made this in 1959, forgot about it, and we just unearthed it. It’s so genius. Up until this point, you couldn’t own Nouvelle Vague on physical media in America, which sucked. I was in Portland, Oregon just a few weeks ago at this awesome shop called Music Millennium, and I found a region-locked physical copy of Nouvelle Vague that could only be played in Europe with certain players. You couldn’t play it in America. Then... BAM. Criterion. They’re just coming out of nowhere making my weird niche film dream come true. Here’s hoping for a 4K, but yet another reason why Criterion is the best at what they do. by @cinelue
Having spent three weeks in the State of Oregon, the Physical Media Quest took off like never before! From visiting the Criterion Mobile Closet (video coming soon!) to countless stops at Barnes and Noble and @musicmillennium, I made quite the dent in my journey. Favorite finds: - BTTF 4K UHD Steelbook for 50% off PLUS a $5 coupon at B&N. - LOTR VHS Trilogy (in perfect condition) for $9! - Blu-Ray The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly for $10 vs. the new $50 4K UHD - The Criterion Collection’s The Princess Bride, Seven Samurai, and Charade. by @cinelue
Music Millennium is the spot! My wallet, well, not so much 😭😵‍💫🤩 by @cinelue
Happy 45th to the GREATEST action film of all time! Here’s a quick peek into my Raiders collection; a movie that’s more than a “movie” to myself and so many other fans. The blocking, lighting, production design, pacing, score, acting, world-building, and directing from the legendary Steve Spielberg will always stand the test of time as the finest example of pure cinema. “I don’t know, I’m making this up as I go.” by @cinelue
