Who said you have to travel to Chateau Elan for vineyard views?

Right here in Stonecrest sits a hidden gem. We stopped by Arabia Mountain Vineyard, an 18-acre, Black-owned, family-operated destination where nature, relaxation and unforgettable experiences come together.

From scenic views and peaceful escapes to intimate gatherings and special celebrations, this is another reminder that Stonecrest has some incredible places to discover.

From Stonecrest to Ghana.

A recent trip to Ghana, West Africa, was described by Councilmember George Turner as “quite emotional and beautiful.” During his visit October 10-19, he spent time in the capital city of Accra but traveled along the coast to Cape Coast and beyond with a group of 12 representing Michigan, Virginia, D.C., Florida, and Georgia.

“This trip fulfilled a longstanding dream of visiting the Motherland,” Turner said. He honored the chance to learn more about the country’s deep culture, history, and achievements, delve into the slave trade, as well as challenge pervasive negative stereotypes.

Turner found a progressive country advanced in medical and other practices, lively maritime commerce, and also unique cultural traditions such as bountiful local marketplaces and “kayayei” – female head porters who carry heavy goods, produce or baskets in urban markets.

“I hope by sharing this that people are encouraged to visit and recognize what the continent has to offer, and appreciate the pan-African vision of a united Africa.”

Stonecrest, we had a SPOOK-tacular time during Trunk or Treat hosted by District 3 at Fairington Park.

The costumes were festive, the candy flowing, and the community showed up for a fun evening!

A fang-tastic thank you to Councilmember Alecia Washington, supporters, partners, and attendees who helped make this a real treat for our children and children-at-heart.

DeKalb County recently celebrated the groundbreaking of Fire Station No. 27 on Pleasant Hill Road in Lithonia. When complete by early 2028, the $9.6-million station is expected to improve emergency response times in southeast DeKalb County.

The two-story, 14,600-square-foot station will support Fire Station 14, which serves Lithonia extending into Stonecrest. County officials say the station is being designed with firefighter health, safety and wellness in mind.

Mayor Jazzmin Cobble, and Councilmembers Alecia Washington, George Turner, and Karmesha Smith joined county partners for this important milestone — marking the first addition to the county’s fire department in 20 years that is not a replacement for an existing station.
