Through this unique reunion of people and sounds often depicted as wildly different, they create breathtaking original pieces that fuse jazz of all flavours with the musical traditions of Quebec, France, Spain, the Balkans and China. Their first studio LP Vanishing Points is dubbed by critics as “a fascinating pancanadian experience with a unique new sound”. Their previous EP “Live en personne”, was named World Album of the Year at the 2024 YYC Awards. #calgareal #jazzyyc #ironwoodstageandgrill by @cjswnoise

THIS WEEK'S ALBUM! ARTIST - PISS ALBUM - you made me / skin on linen YEAR OF RELEASE - 2026 GENRE - Hardcore / Punk FORMATS AVAILABLE - LP / CD / Digital / Cassette PURCHASE - Bandcamp / Subpop.com PISS is a noisy, genre-bending four-piece band from Vancouver, B.C. Combining punk, poetry, sound collage, performance art, and visual art, the band creates a multidisciplinary body of work that blurs the line between personal and political. Powered by thoughtful musicianship, energetic live performances, and a crystal-clear artistic mission, PISS writes punk music that aims to transcend the limitations of a well-established genre. Their work draws inspiration from a range of unexpected influences: literary giants, philosophers, filmmakers, painters, psychoanalysts, activists, children, members of a German anarcho-feminist militant group, and conversations with audience members. These voices represent varying ideological beliefs about gender-based violence and enable PISS to create art that depicts challenging and controversial issues such as sexual violence and enculturated gender norms without reduction, romanticization, polemics, or dogmatism.   #cjswnoise #cjswnoiseshowcase #cjsw #piss by @cjswnoise
New Works Calgary and Springboard Performance present Elisa Thorn: Theirs is the Song, with special guest Jennifer Clarke + Alexandra Contreras: La Vieja Astronauta as part of Fluid Fest November 1, 2026 7 PM • Doors 6:30 PM The Erratics Indie Arts Club #150 625 11th Ave SW A special partnership between New Works Calgary and Springboard Performance, this evening brings together three radical interdisciplinary arts innovators: Vancouver harpist, composer, and interdisciplinary artist Elisa Thorn, alongside Calgary movement artists Alexandra Contreras and Jennifer Clarke. Each artist brings a distinctly contemporary creative language to the stage, while sharing an appetite for experimentation, risk, and unexpected connections. The evening features an experimental song cycle by Thorn and her collaborators Nikko Whitworth and Trent Freeman, a solo dance/theatre work by Contreras, and a newly commissioned improvisational collaboration between Thorn and Clarke. Known for her radical and contemporary approach to the harp, Thorn creates music that, as Rhythm Changes writes, “electrifies your expectations.” Clarke brings her own “adventurous spirit” and “improvisatory verve” (Georgia Straight) to a practice that moves fluidly between choreography, movement, and sound. Contreras completes the trio with a deeply human choreographic voice that explores the stories and experiences we carry in our bodies. Together, these three radical interdisciplinary arts innovators create an evening of music, movement, and spontaneous exchange where composition meets improvisation, the personal meets the experimental, and three singular artistic voices come together to discover what can happen in the space between them. www.newworkscalgary.com by @cjswnoise
