What makes parenting with ADHD even harder than it already is?

For me, it’s the sheer OVERWHELM of trying to keep on top of EVERYTHING.

The housework, cooking, cleaning, washing, shopping, bills, school stuff, birthday parties, appointments, half-term plans, work, friendships, family commitments and the never-ending life admin.

And then there’s the actual parenting!

The sibling arguments, anxiety, meltdowns, backchat, aggression, screen-time battles, one child desperately wanting to do something while the other absolutely refuses. The constant negotiating, problem-solving and trying to work out what everyone needs.

Then there’s the advocacy. The school meetings, emails, forms and endless explaining, trying to get your children understood and supported.

And all the while you’re questioning yourself. Am I doing the right thing? Should I be firmer? More flexible? Am I pushing too hard? Not hard enough?

Add everyone else’s opinions about how you SHOULD be parenting, and somewhere in the middle of all that, you’re supposed to be managing your own ADHD, regulating your emotions and remaining the calm, patient parent you want to be.

It’s A LOT.

And I think we sometimes underestimate just how much we’re asking of ourselves, particularly when we’re raising neurodivergent children with an ADHD brain of our own.

So tell me, what’s the thing that makes parenting with ADHD hardest for YOU?

The mental load? The constant demands? Your own emotional regulation? Your children’s challenges? Other people’s expectations?

Or something completely different?

Happy Birthday to one of our incredible Self Made Speaking Academy graduates, Janine McDonald @cleartheclutternow! 🎉💎🎤

Janine reminds us that sometimes the journey from chaos to clarity starts by taking a closer look at what’s around us.

Our environments matter. The spaces we spend time in, the people we surround ourselves with and what we allow into our world can all impact how we think, feel and move forward.

A powerful message from a powerful speaker 👏🏾

Join us in wishing Janine a very Happy Birthday in the comments! 🎂🥳
