The process of hammock making begins here, when the artisan skillfully separates the moriche leaves forming long strips that are grouped into bundles, which are eventually boiled in water. by @co.nuco

Conuco details

The Cabecera (or Headboard) is made out of a set of braided cords, woven like a mesh of rhombuses and hexagons that finishes the ends of the hammock’s body. by @co.nuco

Simón Bolívar hangs out in his hammock, circa 1828 by @co.nuco

Our hammocks are hand woven in the Orinoco Delta by Warao communities.

The Warao are an indigenous Amerindian people inhabiting northeastern Venezuela.

The inaccessibility of the Warao’s lands makes access to health care difficult.

With the purchase of a Hammock, Conuco will donate proceeds to local organizations that facilitate healthcare access for the Warao. by @co.nuco

Conuco in the making

All fibers in the hammock are derived from the Palma de Moriche.

The fibers are cross-weaved, creating a lighter and more elastic feel to the body of the hammock. by @co.nuco
