Sometimes, being the only woman in the room isn’t easy. But sometimes, being that woman is exactly what will make a difference. Being in male dominated environments comes with its challenges. There are times when you have to work that little bit harder to be heard, to be taken seriously, or to prove that you deserve your place at the table. There will be moments when you question yourself, feel out of your depth, or wonder whether you really belong. And sometimes, you might be the only woman doing what you’re doing. Sometimes you have to be the first, so that you won’t be the last. You might not see the changes immediately. You might not even benefit from the doors you’re helping to open. But somewhere down the line, another woman might walk into that same room and not think twice about whether she belongs there. And that’s worth something. Grateful to be surrounded by people who give me opportunities not because I’m a woman, or because they need to demonstrate equality, but because they recognise what I bring as an individual. The ones who make me forget I’m the only woman in the room, until I see a photo and I’m reminded ❤️ Because ultimately, that’s what we should be working towards. Not being given opportunities simply to make up the numbers, but equally, not having to fight twice as hard just to be considered. Just being recognised for who we are, what we know and what we’re capable of contributing. And to the women finding their way in spaces where they might still be in the minority… Keep showing up. Keep learning. Keep challenging yourself. Don’t be afraid to have a voice, even when yours is the only female one in the conversation. And remember, the space you make for yourself today might be the space another woman feels confident enough to step into tomorrow. by @coach_lisag
💜 WORLD MENOPAUSE DAY 💜 As a woman working in the fitness and sporting industry, and going through perimenopause myself, I’ve come to realise just how much this stage of life can impact us physically, mentally and emotionally. I’ve spent years coaching women through various stages of perimenopause and menopause, but there’s something very different about experiencing it yourself. The fatigue, brain fog, mood changes, disrupted sleep, anxiety and days when your body just doesn’t respond the way it used to. Being a coach, a powerlifter and understanding exercise and nutrition doesn’t make me immune to any of it. If anything, it’s given me a deeper understanding of the women I work with. Sometimes what someone needs isn’t another push to work harder, but someone who understands why things feel harder. 💜 We still have a long way to go. Research into menopause and its impact on women’s health and performance has historically been overlooked and underfunded. Thankfully, awareness and treatment are improving, but too many women are still fighting to be heard, have their symptoms taken seriously and access the support they deserve. 💜 My advice? Don’t dismiss how you’re feeling. Ask questions, seek support and advocate for yourself. Keep moving, keep lifting and looking after your health, but recognise that sometimes your body needs a different approach. And don’t compare your experience to anyone else’s. I’m still navigating my own symptoms and learning what works for me, but I genuinely believe it’s making me a more understanding and compassionate coach. Understanding the science is important, but living through it is something else entirely. 💜 Most importantly, menopause doesn’t mean your goals, ambitions or aspirations have to stop. You can still dream big, challenge yourself and achieve things you never thought possible. That medal reminds me that even on the difficult days, I’m still capable of achieving things I’m incredibly proud of. We’re not done yet. Not even close. 💜💪 by @coach_lisag
🇮🇲COMMONWEALTH POWERLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2026 – CANADA 🇨🇦 Now the chalk has settled on the Commonwealth Championships in Winnipeg, I wanted to celebrate the achievements of five fantastic athletes I’ve had the pleasure of personally coaching with some brilliant performances on the international platform! 🏆 BENCH PRESS CHAMPIONSHIPS 🥇 Lilly-Jo Hampton – SJ 69kg – GOLD 🥇 Katie Lovelady – J 84kg – GOLD 🥇 Teagan Lindsay – J 52kg – GOLD 🥉 Kerry Lindsay – M2 69kg – BRONZE 🏆 FULL POWER CHAMPIONSHIPS 🇮🇲 Lilly-Jo Hampton – SJ 69kg Squat 115kg 🥉 Bench 67.5kg 🥉 Deadlift 125kg 🥉 Total 307.5kg 🥉 🇮🇲 Katie Lovelady – J 84kg Squat 140kg Bench 75kg Deadlift 185kg 🥉 Total 400kg 🇮🇲 Teagan Lindsay – J 52kg Squat 107.5kg Bench 55kg Deadlift 125kg Total 287.5kg 🇮🇲 Kerry Lindsay – M2 69kg Squat 117.5kg Bench 60kg 🥉 Deadlift 135kg Total 312.5kg 🇮🇲 Tracy Moore – M1 84kg Squat 100kg Bench 47.5kg Deadlift 145kg Total 292.5kg Behind these numbers are months of hard work, commitment, juggling everyday life, overcoming challenges and showing up to train. International competition is about so much more than the numbers on the bar, and each one has their own journey and achievements to be proud of. It was fantastic to be in Canada supporting them in person, sharing the nerves, making the calls, celebrating the lifts and being part of their Commonwealth experience. We continue… 🇮🇲🤩 by @coach_lisag
Let me tell you about Kerry Lindsay… 💜 Kerry came to me at 48 years old with one fairly simple goal, she wanted to get strong. She had a sedentary, stressful job, two teenage daughters and no background that suggested she was about to become an international powerlifter. When we started, her mobility was so limited that just getting a barbell comfortably onto her back to squat was a challenge. Getting to competition depth? That was another challenge entirely. But we worked with where she was, not where we thought she should be. And then we just kept building. Fast forward 5 years and Kerry has gone from struggling to squat with a barbell to competing nationally and internationally for the Isle of Man, including representing her country at major championships and, most recently, bringing home in the bench press. 🇮🇲🥉 But her story is about so much more than medals. Along the way, she has supported her daughter Teagan in her own lifting journey, watched her compete, trained and competed alongside her, and become part of the sport as much more than an athlete herself. She has gained coaching and refereeing qualifications, given her time back to powerlifting and helped other people discover the sport that she once walked into as a complete beginner. All while still balancing work and home life! And now? Kerry is taking everything she has learned and using it to help the next group of women take that first step. She is now part of the Old Ladies Lift programme at @thecentre_pliom — creating exactly the kind of welcoming environment that shows women that starting strength training later in life is absolutely possible. I think sometimes we sell coaching through before-and-after photos. But this is the kind of before and after I love. From “I can barely get the bar onto my shoulders”… to international powerlifter, medal winner, coach, referee, role model and someone helping other women become stronger. All because at 48, she decided to start. 💜 You don’t have to already be strong to start lifting. You lift and somewhere along the way, you become strong. by @coach_lisag
Commonwealth Championship Competition Recap 🥇 Squat 137.5kg ⚪️ 145kg 🔴 145kg ⚪️ 🥇 Bench 70 ⚪️ 75 ⚪️ 77.5 ⚪️🥉 Deadlift 170 ⚪️ 185 ⚪️🥇 200 🔴 Yesterday left me with a lot of mixed emotions. Of course I am incredibly proud that I won and proud to be a Commonwealth Champion, bringing home medals for the team But I’m also really disappointed Disappointed because I know what I’ve been capable of in training and how badly I wanted 200kg for so long but I didn’t quite put that together on the platform again yesterday You can be happy you won and still be disappointed that you didn’t perform how you wanted to And I’m going to let myself feel both Because the disappointment isn’t about the medal It’s because I care about what I’m capable of too And I’m far from finished finding that out yet Grateful for @dallen_ni & @tm_performance_coach for handling me on the day so the IOM lifters were fully supported with our available coaches @richie105_lifts & @munchboxman for perfectly timed warm ups To all the awesome women I shared the warm up and platform with! We all found that 5am weigh in tough!! 🫩 Everyone back home and everyone who sent messages , especially @younglizface for being there through the whole day at the end of a message when I needed it, I know she would have given anything to be here in person ❤️ @pbsammurphy for ALL the things including dealing so well with me crying on the phone 😑 And of course @440coaching @clarice_odyssey for all they do ❤️ We just go and go again 🙏 by @coach_lisag

COMPETITION RECAP! Saturday saw the Isle of Man Co Hirrey Powerlifting Competition, with five of my coached athletes taking to the platform and what a brilliant day it was! For James, Brittany and Georgia, this was their very first powerlifting competition, while Jackie and Tanya made their return to the platform after some time away. It was also a pretty special one for the team, with mum and daughter Tanya & Georgia competing alongside each other, while James & Brittany got to experience their first competition together as partners. ❤️ Georgia Mackrell Sub Junior | 63kg Squat: 65kg Bench: 30kg Deadlift: 82.5kg Tanya Mackrell Masters 1 | 63kg Squat: 75kg Bench: 37.5kg Deadlift: 100kg James Baker Open | 120kg Squat: 125kg Bench: 80kg Deadlift: 145kg Brittany Dowty Masters 1 | 84+kg Squat: 57.5kg Bench: 40kg Deadlift: 87.5kg Jackie Wade Masters 1 | 84+kg Squat: 85kg Bench: 65kg Deadlift: 125kg Strong performances across the board, but more importantly, everyone had a fantastic day and represented themselves brilliantly on the platform. For our three first-timers, I have a feeling this definitely won’t be the last time we see them competing! A huge thank you to all the volunteers who gave their time and helped create such a positive experience for the lifters. And a special thank you to @t3agan.lifts for being an awesome assistant coach and helping me keep everyone calm, organised and ready to lift! Thanks as always too @picsbycorraste for capturing the moments by @coach_lisag
🇬🇧 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS RECAP — LILLY HAMPTON 🇬🇧 In April 2025, at just 15 years old, Lilly stepped onto a powerlifting platform for the very first time. Fast forward less than 18 months and, at 16, she was walking onto the platform in South Africa wearing a GB singlet at the Junior & Sub Junior World Championships. Her first international competition. Her first World Championships. Representing Great Britain. I’ve had the privilege of coaching Lilly from those early days and watching her grow, not just as a lifter but as an athlete. She works hard, she listens, she learns and gets on with the job. And on one of the biggest stages in our sport, she absolutely held her own. Squat — 112.5kg | matched PB Bench — 67.5kg | matched PB Deadlift — 122.5kg | +2.5kg PB Total — 302.5kg | +2.5kg PB 5th place in the world and valuable points contributed towards the GB team total. Which is incredible in itself but this competition was about so much more than the numbers. To go from your first ever competition at 15 to representing your country on a World Championship platform at 16 is something Lilly should be incredibly proud of. International competition brings a completely different level of pressure, expectation and experience and she handled it with maturity, soaking up every moment There is still so much more to come, being is only at the very beginning of her powerlifting journey, and that is probably the most exciting part. From first comp to a GB World Championship platform in less than 18 months. Not a bad start, Lilly and SO deserved by @coach_lisag
The Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships kicks off in Winnipeg next week 😍 🇨🇦 Best of luck to the 440 Nutrition xSP🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 team and Isle of Man’s Head Coach, Ref and Athlete Lisa 😅 🇮🇲 🍁 by @coach_lisag
“So your competition day didn’t go to plan…” You missed lifts you know you can hit Your total wasn’t what you wanted Maybe you didn’t place where you hoped Maybe the whole day just felt off And you’re disappointed That’s OK! I’m not going to tell you “at least you got on the platform” or “just be grateful for the experience.” Sometimes comments like this has the potential to stop us processing what happened You’re allowed to be gutted You’re allowed to be frustrated You’re allowed to replay that missed lift in your head and wonder what you could have done differently You cared about the outcome. You trained hard for it. Of course there are emotions attached to it. Feel them. Just don’t build a home there. Once the emotion has settled, start separating what happened from what we tell ourselves it means. I had a bad competition, so I’m a bad lifter. I missed a PB, so all that training was wasted. Everyone else is progressing faster than me. Maybe I’m just not good enough. None of those are facts. The facts might be: I missed my second squat. My deadlift didn’t move how it had in training. My nerves got the better of me. My preparation could have been better. Those are things we can work with. A competition isn’t just a test of strength. It tests your preparation, decision making, confidence, emotional control and ability to perform under pressure. And sometimes it exposes things that training never could. So when you’re ready, ask yourself: What went well? What was within my control? What wasn’t? What did I learn? What will I do differently next time? Then we go back to work. Not pretending we’re delighted about a disappointing day. Not punishing ourselves for it either. Just taking the information, making the adjustments and moving forward. One competition is a snapshot of your performance on one day. It is not a verdict on you as an athlete. Feel it. Learn from it. Then use it. by @coach_lisag
