Planning a remodel before the holidays? Here's a little advice from someone who's been there. Give yourself more time than you think you'll need! Because sometimes the cabinets arrive late. Sometimes a problem shows up after demolition. And sometimes that "quick little project" turns into something a whole lot bigger than you expected. Ask me how I know! Before you set your remodeling schedule, think about the things happening in your family's life. Are you hosting Thanksgiving? Do you have family coming to stay? Will you need your kitchen, bathroom, or another important space for an upcoming event? A little breathing room in your schedule can make a big difference when those unexpected surprises show up. I've shared more practical advice for making your remodel less stressful in my latest blog. Check out the blog at the link in my bio. Would you rather remodel before the holidays or wait until January? #YourRemodelingCoach #FixerUpper #NextChapterSocial #CountryLiving #RenovationJourney #HomeRenovation #PrincetonTexas #HomeRenovationTips #RemodelingAdvice #Homeowners by @coleenmerk
Four weeks. That's how long we thought our remodel would take. TEN weeks later… we were still in the middle of it! 😂 Oh, the joys of remodeling! If you've ever lived through a home renovation, you know that sometimes the timeline has a mind of its own. One little change leads to another. Something unexpected shows up. And before you know it, you're wondering if you'll ever see the finish line. But here's the good news. You can survive a remodel, even when things don't go quite according to plan! I've learned a few lessons along the way, and I'm sharing 5 of them in my latest blog. Check out the blog at the link in my bio. Now tell me… has your remodeling project ever taken longer than expected? #YourRemodelingCoach #FixerUpper #NextChapterSocial #CountryLiving #RenovationJourney #HomeRenovation #PrincetonTexas #RemodelingReality #DIYHomeImprovement #HomeRemodel by @coleenmerk
It's easy to get caught up in the beautiful before-and-after photos, isn't it? The gorgeous kitchens. The perfectly organized laundry rooms. The bathrooms that look like they belong in a magazine. And don't get me wrong, I love a beautiful remodel! But here's something I've learned along the way. The best remodeling decisions aren't always about what looks the prettiest. They're about what makes your home work better for the people living in it. Maybe that means more room for family dinners. Maybe it's finally having enough storage. Or maybe it's creating a space where you can sit down, take a deep breath, and enjoy a little peace and quiet. Whatever your dream looks like, remember that your home should fit your life, not the other way around. If you're planning a remodel, I've shared 5 tips to help make the journey a little less stressful. You can check out the blog at the link in my profile. Before you start picking out countertops, paint colors, and all those beautiful finishing touches, there's something even more important to think about. How do you want your home to work for YOU? I know, I know. Planning isn't nearly as exciting as choosing that perfect kitchen backsplash! But after our own remodeling adventures, I've learned that a little extra planning can save a whole lot of frustration later. From budgets to timelines to those unexpected surprises hiding behind the walls, there are a few things every homeowner should consider before the dust starts flying. I've shared 5 of my favorite tips in my latest blog! Check out the blog at the link in my bio. I wish I could tell you: “Start your remodel in October.” Or March. Or June. And everything will go smoothly because you've chosen the perfect remodeling month. Unfortunately, remodeling doesn't work quite like that. 😉 The date on the calendar only tells you so much. What's happening inside your home and your life matters a whole lot more. That's especially true when you're considering a remodel around the holidays. So instead of giving you a magic “yes” or “no,” I've put together the things I'd want you to think about before deciding. 👉 Read: Should You Remodel During the Holidays? Nothing says “Home for the Holidays” quite like a pile of construction debris in the middle of the house. 😂 But here's the funny thing... That doesn't necessarily mean remodeling during the holidays is a bad idea. Depending on what's happening in your life, it might work better than you'd expect. Or you might look at that picture and decide January sounds absolutely wonderful. Either way, there are a few things worth considering before you decide. 👉 Read the latest blog: Should You Remodel During the Holidays? Your remodel isn't just a project on a contractor's calendar. It's happening in your home. The place where you make dinner, get ready in the morning, gather with your family, host people you love and occasionally wonder why you ever thought knocking down that wall was a good idea. 😉 That's why I don't believe there's a magic month when remodeling suddenly becomes convenient. The goal isn't finding the “perfect” time. It's finding the time that makes the most sense for your project and the people who have to live through it. If a remodel is somewhere in your future, that's the kind of planning I want to help you with. 💌 Sign up for my emails for practical remodeling advice, resources, and a little real-life perspective along the way. A guest bathroom remodel when you aren't having overnight guests? That's one thing. A kitchen remodel right before Thanksgiving when you're hosting everyone at your house? That's...another thing. 😄 One of the things homeowners sometimes overlook when choosing a remodel date is how much they'll need that particular space while the work is happening. And during the holidays, that can matter even more. But the room you're remodeling is only one piece of the timing puzzle. There are several other things I'd think through before deciding whether holiday remodeling makes sense for your family. 👉 I've put them together in my latest blog. Most of us hear “remodel during the holidays” and immediately think... Nope. Absolutely not. 😂 And depending on your plans, that might be the right answer. But it might not be. There are actually some circumstances when starting, or continuing, a remodel during the holidays can make a lot of sense. The important part is knowing what to consider before you put that start date on the calendar. I'm walking through it in my latest blog, including a few situations where holiday remodeling might work better than you'd expect. 👉 Read: Should You Remodel During the Holidays? Picture it… Christmas music playing. Coffee in your favorite mug. Everyone home together. And somewhere in the background… BZZZZZZZZZZ. 🔨 Ahhh. The peaceful sounds of the holidays. 😂 Having extra time at home can actually make managing a remodel easier. You're available for questions, decisions and checking progress. But there's one tiny detail we shouldn't overlook: Everyone else is home, too. Before scheduling construction over a holiday break, make sure your family's idea of “time off” includes living through a remodel. More things to consider before saying yes to a holiday remodel are on the blog. Sometimes remodeling means looking at THIS… …and reminding yourself what it's going to look like when it's finished. 😅 If there's a space you want ready for spring, or a life change coming that your home needs to accommodate, starting during the winter may actually make sense. Maybe it's an outdoor space you want ready when the weather warms up. Maybe you need another bedroom. Maybe you've simply been saying “next year” for the last three years. Don't choose your remodeling timeline just because it's what everyone else does. Think about where you're trying to go, then work backward from there. ✨ Sometimes the inconvenient season is the one that gets you ready for the next one.
