“You probably want people to know you’re not just some rando who decided to start a coffee company.”

A fair point, raised by my nearest and dearest the other day.

So, here it is. Hello everyone. I’m Sonny, the guy behind Contour. I struggle a bit with self-promotion, so I’ll likely be testing my edges with you all here.

My coffee journey began in 2017 in Oxford, making coffee by day and mixing cocktails by night.

After moving to Bristol the following year, I was lucky enough to work with two of the city’s best roasteries, Clifton Coffee and Triple Co, eventually becoming Head of Coffee.

Packing coffee, roasting coffee, sourcing coffee, tasting coffee, teaching coffee. (The dry CV version lives on LinkedIn.)

Those experiences eventually led me to believe, perhaps a little naively, that I could offer something a little different.

Contour is built around the idea that coffee can be more than just a daily caffeine hit. Through workshops tastings and experiences, I want to help demystify coffee a bit, while hopefully stoking up some of the excitement I feel everyday for this miraculous drink.

Alongside that, I wanted to roast some genuinely delicious beans too. As it’s something I’ve been doing for years.

Contour is my small attempt to share these passions with a few more people. Big love for all the support so far 🙏 by @contour.coffee

For Stuart’s 50th, Hazel wanted to give him something they could do together, not something else to unwrap.

So we put together a one-off Crop to Cup workshop at the roastery, exploring coffee from green bean through to roasting, brewing and tasting.

A few hours, plenty of coffee, lots of questions, a wicked way to spend a birthday morning. IMO.

I love putting these more bespoke sessions together, especially when they’re tied to a celebration or occasion. Happy birthday Stuart! 🥳

If you’ve got a birthday, team day or another good excuse to disappear down the coffee rabbit hole for a few hours, give me a shout.

Bespoke sessions by DM. Public dates via link in bio.

Before everyone arrives.

Sun shining, birds singing, tunes playing, coffee ready.

Workshop days might be my favourite at Contour.

Fancy roasting your own coffee?

Join me at Contour in Bristol for a hands-on coffee roasting workshop.

We’ll explore what’s happening inside the roaster, how roasting shapes flavour, taste plenty of coffee along the way — and you’ll roast your own batch to take home.

Small groups. No experience needed. Just curiosity.

Dates available through to December.

Turns out doing the business and talking about doing the business are two different jobs.

Social media has taken a bit of a back seat while I’ve been running workshops, roasting, consulting, and generally trying to keep all the plates spinning.

Anyway, hello again 👋 Hope you’ve had a mint summer.

Here’s me, enjoying an Easy Rider with my little one in the woods at @kudhva Cornwall. One of the lovely places stocking Contour.

There’s plenty happening. I’ll try and remember to tell you about some of it. by @contour.coffee

Some partnerships just make sense.

Last week, I headed down to Kudhva in Cornwall, an off-grid landscape hotel perched above the Atlantic coast.

It’s the sort of place that encourages you to slow down, look up from your phone, and pay a little more attention to the world around you.

Which, in a way, isn’t that different from what I’m trying to do with coffee.

I’m really pleased that Contour is now being served to guests staying at Kudhva.

If you’re heading to Cornwall this summer and looking for somewhere a little different, it’s well worth a look.

And yes, the coffee is pretty good too ☕

P.S. Some rather lovely collaboration bags are currently making their way through the design process. More on those soon… by @contour.coffee

Workshops baby ☕️

After a few sold-out sessions and plenty of coffee-fuelled tinkering, I’ve put together the next run of Contour workshops for June and July.

If you’ve ever wanted to roast your own coffee, improve your brewing at home, or simply understand why coffee can taste so wildly different from one cup to the next, there’s something in here for you.

Small groups. Plenty of tasting. Zero coffee snobbery.

See you in the studio. by @contour.coffee

Nice to be featured in Bristol 24/7 this weekend.

We spoke about my journey leading up to Contour, the idea behind the roasting studio, and why I love creating these experiences.

It feels slightly surreal being written up like this, but I’m really grateful for the support so far 🙏
