POSTS STORIES REELS

Hi ya’ll! 👋🏾 It’s Carol — I know, it’s been a while! Let me explain…

Haven’t had the chance to work on much for Cool Town as of late — been kept super busy delivering client work and this image here is from a project I recently finished producing for BuzzFeed Unsolved’s YouTube channel under the title, “Key Evidence: Capturing The Dating Game Killer”.

If you’re into true crime and love miniatures, be sure to check it out!

Also, drop by my solo page @the_ckraftz and take a look around at some of my latest work! (Link to my BuzzFeed vid is also in that bio!)

That said, Cool Town projects will hopefully resume again soon so don’t go anywhere! Once I get a chance to come up for some air, I plan to better balance out my time and continue the work I’ve built here with Cool Town, elevating it to its next level (whatever that is).

Thanks for always showing us love even when we’re on long hiatuses here and there — I promise, Cool Town is always on my mind. 😎

Hop over to @the_ckraftz and let me know what you think of…well…my other ckraftz!! Lol!

Much love,
@carolkras

Here is my collaboration with Vincent Van Gogh in a remix piece we’ve titled, ‘The Bedroom in Arles...SNOOZED’.

I use Van Gogh to demonstrate and visually represent the story of my life in a short animation towards the end of the video. It’s an expression of how I generally feel after being able to put that final piece on a project that I’ve been obsessively building for whatever duration of time.

Once that last thing is placed (oh so perfectly) I can finally...FINALLY...snooze. Lol! Until the next one...which is usually not too far behind oyeeee!

Because this was a replica of an actual Van Gogh painting, to create and emulate the texture and get the colors right, I opted out of using any actual paint and went with a medium I personally love and felt would suite this project best—oil pastel.

The entire set was colored with pastel even the towel and little bits and pieces on the small table with the exception of the portraits on the wall which were drawn with watercolor pencils.

The coats behind the bed are made of paper towels with foil adhered to them so they would hold their position in how they dangled off the hook.

What I love about this build is its forced perspective - that said, my least favorite thing about the process were making those damn chairs. They turned out pretty well, but were a pain to assemble and keep fixed together long enough for the glue to cure because glue and oil pastel really don’t like each, haha!

My favorite thing, however, is the table and the bits and pieces on top. Again, the little things - ya know? So proud of it. 🤗

Be sure to watch to end for the stop motion short and a side-by-side of Van Gogh’s painting and my replica.

Until the next one...enjoy! 😎

We’re easily sidetracked...😂 🥅🏒 Pulled some old sets to take you guys on another set tour! As we we were dressing one of them we got the bright idea to take a break and play a little. Enjoy these few pixel animations while we get those videos ready for you! .

Welcome to our very first Cool Town set tour! (Sorry for the crappy filmmaking - ‘twas sporadic😝) This RV set is one of my personal favorites mainly because I’m a big fan of the idea of RV’s and just HAD to make one. So, Jen and I whipped this together one day (some years back) for Bertha (an original Cool Town character) for a Halloween video that we never finished, haha! 🤦🏽‍♀️😂 It started out as just a front facade that we later finished off and dressed (mostly because we were just looking for a place to store some older set pieces, lol). The inspiration behind the motivation, I tell ya.

Anyway, there are more sets that I’d love to take you guys into so you can experience the set from a puppet’s perspective! So, give this vid a little “❤️” for more ‘Cool Town Cribz’ tours like this! 😎

Also, I know we keep falling off the grid, but we manage to find our way back eventually so thank you guys for sticking with our really sporadic returns and posts. Hoping to keep it more consistent moving forward with updates on the BIG project that we are still working on. It’s a lot to tackle and our schedules make it very challenging to crank things out, but no excuses, we got this and we’ll update you guys every step of the way!

Until the next sporadic post, have a safe, exciting and creative holiday season, everyone!
Much love,
Carol (@carolkras) .

PRE.PRO-BLOG: Even though our buildings aren’t quite finished yet, I thought I’d start doing a little groundwork for another impending big task that will soon follow the completion of our buildings...CARS!!! 🚗💨 Felt inspired so I went for it...still have a few more styles in mind - one possibly being a food truck and the other, a city bus! @carolkras for @cooltowncreations .

This project has sooooo many windows for us to decorate, detail, hide, destroy and whatever else we must do to fill the many gaping holes in our buildings, haha!! We will be looking both in and out of windows for the next few work sessions because there’s really that many. 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🏢🏫🏬#progress .
