I hate throwing things away.

I order testers to make sure the colour is what the customer wants. I usually paint the tester on some lining paper so the customer can pop it straight on their wall without having to find a paintbrush and the time to do it themselves.

If they don’t want the testers I take them home and they sit in a box and sometimes I end up buying the same one again for another customer without realising.

So, I thought I would paint all of my testers onto lining paper and just have a library of samples ready to go.

This means I can pass the tins of testers on to @sarahbagshawartist who uses them for her community projects, workshops and work.

To know they are not going to waste makes me really happy 😊

It took me all day to do my samples but now I can just keep adding to them with every tester or paint I buy 🙌

Wow - what a difference a fortnight makes!

It isn’t until I’m putting these videos together that I remember all the steps it took me to get there!

Hallways are a lot of work (I always forget how many times you actually have to go up and down the stairs!) and there are areas that can tricky to get to so I can’t do all configurations of hallways.

But this one I could do 🙌

It’s now warm and welcoming and fits in with all the other rooms in the house with their excellent wallpaper selections.

I first worked here in 2021 and it’s always a joy to see how homes and families change and grow. After a delightful conversation with one of the children about how good Custard Cream spread they presented me with a jar. It’s moments like this that really mean the world to me - not just the jar of spread but the conversations with the children, the cat, the dog, the grandparents and the customers.

That jar and a spoon are coming on holiday with me 😂

If life gives you lemons - make lemonade! 🍋

This bedroom was a mid blue and had some cracks in the plaster so needed a bit of love.

After the usual prep on went Lemonade by @tikkurila_uk and now when you walk into the room it feels like walking into sunshine ☀️

We tried a new thing! #declutter #getstuffdone by @copperknobs

It never happens!

‘Can you spend 15 minutes sorting your room/that box/old clothes/filing/admin…’

The rest of the housework gets done but anything extra seems to slip way down the priority list. It falls way beneath chatting, random guitar playing, singing, making stuff and generally doing anything but sorting.

So, last night I proclaimed that everyday we would all spend 15 minutes at the same time, doing a thing in the house that wouldn’t usually get done.

The pile of jumble at the end of our bed is gone, the children’s clothes are in the very easy open storage that I bought them so they could easily tidy up, the ‘box of stuff’ is nearly empty.

The mixture of body doubling, accountability and urgency meant that four people doing 15 minutes each got an hours worth of work done.

I’m hoping we can keep it up but that’s the next challenge!
What would you do in your 15 minutes?

I wrote a blog post (link in bio)

I don’t write them regularly and find I can only write them I have something in my head that I have been pondering and really need to share!

So here you are, you lucky, lucky people - a post about how being a receptionist at the Custard Factory @digbethestate started my enduring love affair with the arts scene in Birmingham…

What I love most is that I’m still coming across the work of people I handed post to over thirty years ago! @sarapreisler @richardbattye @the__framers_ @craftspace_ and so many more!

Let me know if you were there 1997/1998 - I probably gave you your post and pressed that damn button to let you in 😂 by @copperknobs

What about this for downstairs loo!

People often fall in love with a wallpaper but have no idea where it will fit into their home. It often ends up in the downstairs loo!

This is such an amazing transformation. It’s warm and cosy and now fits with the wonderful decor in the rest of the house 😀 The accessories are perfect 👌

Now booking for March/April so please get in touch if you like to chat about what your decorating needs are.

I love colour!

Working on this hallway was fabulous. The walls had already been painted and the woodwork had been stripped.

I swooped in at the end and stole all the credit!

Tbf the woodwork still needed properly sanding back, the flakey door frames paint needed the paint peeled off and then sealed and sanded.

Then on went the orange, green and black.

Oh yes 🙌

I love this room ❤️ I have discovered lemon and lime jaffa cakes, been treated to cake and great company.

I also got to try something I’ve been wanting to do for ages 🙌 This customer had some amazing curtains and had looked at testers including a fantastic dark green. We thought the green was too dark for an entire wall but I suggested maybe we just use it for the reveals (the bits around the window).

It really elevates the room and makes a great design feature.

You’ll all want them now 😉

This room was a joy from start to finish 😊

It started a few months ago with a three hour declutter session with the customer. This art room had a wide-ranging collection of materials and it took every ounce of willpower not to start creating (for both of us 😂)!

We then put a date in the diary for decorating which gave the customer a hard deadline to get the rest of it sorted.

When I arrived for decorating the room was empty and the plan for a functional art room and reading nook was about to be taken to the next stage.

I repaired some loose wallpaper, removed the massive wedges of silicon from skirting board, stain blocked the dark varnished window frame, repaired some cracks in the ceiling and finally the room was ready to paint!

It’s all in the prep.

The painting is the most satisfying bit but only if the prep is good.

A lovely moment 🥰 #femaledecorator by @copperknobs

A quick flip on this piece for home.

I found this dressing table in @thereusers__ and used the following process:

Sanded all the old varnish off
Cleaned with white spirit
Applied two coats of Danish Oil
Lined the drawers

Good to go!

Please get in touch if you have any furniture that needs working on. I finally have some space in the workshop schedule!
